Is this possible?

Or does one have to travel out of the country to an Embassy in another country ( or send PP )?

Thanks.

I you want a new non-o visa you would have to leave the country to get it.

If you have a one year extension of stay you can apply for a new one without leaving the country at an immigration.

If you have a non-o visa now you could apply for an extension at immigration based upon marriage, being the parent of a Thai or retirement.

So when my existing non O runs out I can apply for a 1 year extension at immigration, is that correct?
The extension is the same criteria, 90 days each entry?

Thanks

You can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries from your non-o visa. You do not have to wait for your visa to expire.

It is a one year extension and you do not need to leave the country unless you want to. You just do 90 day reports to immigration.

For an extension based upon marriage you need 400k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months in your name only or proof of 40k baht income.

Ok , thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Can I do 90 day reporting on my current non O or must I leave the country each time?

You have to leave the country every 90 days since that is all that your visa allows.

It is a report of staying longer than 90 days in the country that only needs to be done if you can stay longer than 90 days.

When you have a 90-day permission to stay in Thailand, you leave before it expires and do not need to do 90-day reports.

If you do not want to leave Thailand before expiry of your permission to stay, you must apply for an extension of stay. The two main extensions you can request are:

  • A one-year extension of stay. This allows you stay without leaving, but you must do address reporting each 90 days. This extension can be repeated indefinitely.
  • A 60-day extension to visit your wife. You can only get this once per entry and must either apply for a one-year extension or leave at the expiry of that time.

Thanks for the info.

If I understand this correctly then I only ever need 1 x non O visa and just keep applying for extensions?

Or am I missing something?

Thanks

You can keep applying for new extensions year after year without leaving the country unless you want to.

Excellent, and the extension is still valid to come and go if i want to like a normal non O?

What paperwork is required for the extension, proof of address or something?

Thanks.

If you want to travel after getting the extension you will need a re-entry permit to keep the extension valid. A single re-entry permit costs 1000 baht and a multiple is 3800 baht.

My list of the required documents is here. Marriage Extension Requirements.pdf

Just as a side note to perhaps clarify, once to obtain your extension of stay, your non imm o visa is dead and done. Going forward you are in the country purely on that extension of stay,

How about an Non-O over 50 visa,

did not see that mentioned

Thanks

It is very similar in many ways. The financial requirements for the extension of stay are higher than for an extension to stay with your spouse, but (at most immigration offices) significantly less hassle. What may be counter-intuitive is that entering on any Non Imm O visa is sufficient to apply for the retirement extension. Also, you can apply to convert a tourist entry to a non immigrant entry within Thailand, subsequently applying for the retirement extension.

Other than the above, single entry and multiple entry Non Imm O visas all work pretty much the same way. Only the consulates that will issue them, and the conditions you must satisfy, differ between the different categories of Non Imm O visa.

Note that the Non Imm O and Non Imm O-A (long stay) visas are completely different animals.
