Finally Found Glass Bottled Water In HH!

Living here for the best part of a decade I have been semi looking for glass bottled water that is not stupidly expensive. People on TV suggested Macro, Villa Market and other places that were not fruitful. But the other day I was eating out and my gf asked a waitress where the restaurant gets their bottled water from, and she pointed us in the right direction.

If you want to know where to get glass bottled water, head down the 3128 road out of town that goes passed The Artist Village and elephant foundation, the one that leads eventually to Wat Huay Mongkol. If The Artist Village is on your right and you keep going there will be a 7/11 and Family Mart on your left but keep going a little bit longer until you see a 7/11 on your left. Pretty much next to the 7/11 there is a Chang wholesaler. In there you can buy a crate of 24 300ml glass bottled water for 290 baht, but if you return the bottles and the crate after, the next lot will cost you only 60baht.

I am really happy about this because the plastic bottled water sits in hot warehouses and is exposed to sunlight a lot of the time, which allows the plastic to release carcinogens into the water. Hopefully the Chang glass bottles will be safer to consume, and forget using tap water here lol!

Thanks for the share, think many people would be interessted in this. Personally I've known about this for a while due to being in the restaurant business for a while... main reason for me not personally drinking it is that it's "only" drinking water. I exercise quite regurlarly and my body feels quite a lot better when drinking mineral water; which also's quite cheap (some brands) but are in plastic bottles.

I try to work out 4-5 times a week and I drink a lot of water too, often 3 litres a day. Can you suggest any brands of mineral water by any chance??

I'm not going to say I've tried them all, which I haven't, or that I'm an expert in the subject, which I'm not. But for me personally the Aro brand mineral water (Makros own brand @ 49 b / 6x1.5 lt) works very well. The first couple of years me and the Mrs drank the Nestle water as we thought it was a quality brand at a reasnoble price but never understood why we never felt "rejuvenated" after drinking it... read up a little bit and understood the difference between "drinking" and "mineral" water and have never swiched back since.

Yeah it is kinda catch 22, either have mineral water but with plastic bottles, thus the sunlight and heat exposure to the carcinogens; the glass bottled water with the lower electrolytes and maybe chemicals they clean the bottles with, or dirty tap water lol..

Kinda heard that for the first time that there is a difference between drinking- mineral-water.

Very interesting.

I drank "Zen" Drinking Water for the past 2 years but would like to try out mineral water now.

Ive bought the drinking water from CJ near my village. Any other cheap mineral water brand available at CJ or Tesco Express ? I ask because I drive a Honda click and Marko is quite far from Hin Lek fai :-/

I presume you mean the shops on Pala U rd... I live a couple of hundred meters from there; I'll pop into both of them tomorrow and update on my findings then. Also, the Aro brand is not 49 b/ case as I wrote previously, they are 55 b.

Glas bottled water is available in many many shops which either specialised in beverages or simple mom&pop shops.

And yes, it is NOT available at any the big players (Makro, Tesco, BigC, 7/11) except for the throw away soda water bottlers.

Reason: it's kind of a deposit/return system.

At first purchase you have to pay for crate (? Baht) and bottles (24*5 Baht/piece = 120 Baht)

At every following purchase you just return crate with empty bottles and exchange for filled.

Singha drinking water comes in crates with 24 bottles a 0.5 liter and typically cost 60 Baht.

Singha soda water comes in crates with 24 bottles a 0.4 liter and typically cost 125 Baht.

I bet that you will find many shops in your area.

Look out for these:

(light blue is soda water, dark blue is plain drinking water)

I just came back from the shop inbetween the 7/11 and the Chang shop and they sold a 6x1,5l pack of the Minere mineral water for 82 b. Still more than the Makro brand @ 55 b but cheaper than the 109 b mentioned above.
