snoop1130
Duh! Samui hotels warn tourists about high waves and danger - but still they swim Hotels on Koh Samui were busy warning tourists not to go in the water yesterday and high waves buffeted Chaweng beach. But despite the red flags and efforts of life guards some tourists still kept swimming yesterday. Jirasak Sunmee, manager at the Samui Resotel, said that on hearing the warnings from the southern met office and seeing the turbulent waves and dark clouds he instructed staff to gather up all beach chairs and the like. Flags were hoisted and the beach staff were manned with ropes and buoyancy devices as some tourists still insisted on ignoring warnings and entered the water. Earlier in the week a Chinese tourist drowned on Koh Samed and that was in calm waters. Bsd
No surprise. I have dragged people out of the water at the request of our local policeman because... 1. his english isn't the best. 2. he was 300 metres away dealing with someone who had drowned. Everytime I dragged someone out and told them why they shouldn't be swimming two more go in. Worst case was about a year ago where a hotel had posted staff on the beach to force people to keep out of the water, so a guest walked down to the next hotel, 5 minutes later they were dead. 10 red flags on the 700 metres of beach at the time. jak2002003
Leave them to it. Survival of the fittest... or smartest. People have lost touch with reality and the world around them theses days and think they are indestructible.
evadgib
A timely reminder that our drowning season typically occurs between 01 Nov & 31 Mar per annum. Related video:

55Jay
I would of used an OP photo showing swimmers on red flag beaches with high waves. Not boats sitting in placid water.
Gillyflower
But it is the same everywhere. Every year in The French Alps, there are notices telling people not to ski off the flagged slopes, slopes shut to the public, or warnings of avalanches. How many times do we hear of deaths caused by people not heeding these warnings.
