BANGKOK, 3 December 2016 (NNT) – The Joint Command Center for Peace and Order will erect special tents at Sanam Luang for handicapped and elderly mourners to wait outside of a regular queue as about 50,000 mourners were expected on 3 December.

Deputy First Army Area Commander Maj. Gen. Pongsawat Phannajit said the Joint Command Center for Peace and Order will provide special service for the elderly and disabled waiting in Sanam Luang area to enter the Grand Palace to pay homage to the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The special area will be arranged for the elderly and disabled mourners to wait and rest with a medical unit, food and drinks and mobile toilets being provided nearby. The elderly mourners will be arranged on top of a queue so they can enter the palace sooner than the general public.

The command center has called on those living in the Greater Bangkok Metropolitan area to arrive at the Grand Palace to mourn the late His Majesty in the afternoon to give way to about 20,000-30,000 others from the provinces to do so in the morning.

About 40,000 people arrived to mourn the late monarch on 3 December while the number was expected to reach 50,000 in the evening. The queue closes at 09.00 p.m. daily. Those who may queue up before 09.00 p.m. can enter the Grand Palace under arrangement by the Bureau of the Royal Household.
