baz69er
Ive owned my Kawasaki 250 D-Tracker for about 4 years now & when I first bought it, it had done 10,000 Klms, it has now covered 42,000 Klms , I've replaced the normal stuff, tyres, chain & sprockets & have changed oil & filter myself every 5000 Klms I've noticed its getting a bit rattly (Top End) & it may be using a bit of oil as I have noticed a few oil speckles on my jacket & around the rear silencer on long runs, it starts first time from cold or warm & runs fine, I have been told that it needs a Major engine service, I have been quoted about 3,300 Baht plus parts etc, can anyone give me an incite as to what work they will do, im assuming that they may adjust the valves or maybe replace if worn out, is there anything I should insist replacing while they have got the top end apart, new valve stem seals or even new cam chain etc? Cheers Baz
papa al
Maybe ask shop what they consider 'major engine service.' "Using a bit of oil"? A little bit, or a big bit? Does she smoke? If so, ring, piston, pin & cylinder re-do. Adjust valves, sure. RE valve stem seals and cam chain: what does service manual recommend? Otherwise, testing and inspection are needed to ascertain. Do you trust the shop? Will they let you be there for work.?
ktm jeff
Compression test ( dry/ wet ) would give a better idea of engine internals. Rings at least , plus valve shim and new cam chain and tensioner - either Kawasaki part or a manual adjustable one. Good coolant system flush , maybe add performance coolent such as "Engine ice" . Spark plug - platinum ? , synthetic oil - Motul 300v ? . Good mechanic most important .
