Supporters of fugitive abbot gather at temple as officials call for surrender

BANGKOK: -- TWO action plans have been drawn up to deal with Phra Dhammachayo, the fugitive abbot of Wat Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani, by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) based on whether he surrenders or not, former justice minister General Paiboon Koomchaya said yesterday.

Paiboon declined to give details of the plans, but said officers would know by last night which one to implement after a team from the National Office of Buddhism (NOB), which was trying to get the monk to surrender, reported on their latest attempts.

The DSI has been told by prosecutors to bring in Phra Dhammachayo to face charges of money laundering and receiving stolen assets linked to an embezzlement case involving the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative.

The longer they wait the more supporters will gather and stay there, winter is coming so it will be nice temperature to stay there all days.

I don't suppose there is any chance the DSI will act like professional police officers and just go and arrest the fugitive?

Absolutely farcical. This idiot is a monk (questionable). His supporters are also unarmed Buddhists (supposedly).

How hard is it to get in there and get the job done exactly...

Does the new plan offer him a reward to surrender?

After plans X, Y & Z have failed, do they start to name them plans A1, B1, C1 etc ?

What's their unique solution,  Extend The Deadline Again ?

Maybe he can negotiate a cash reward to the DSI to be left alone!

Their unique solution is going to the temple and saying   !!Please come with us now !!:cheesy:

Dopey buggers if they are the best Thailand has heaven help Thai people.

More like the keystone cops.

What do you mean "in case"? He is resisting arrest for a while, already?

Lord Edmund Blackadder: HA! Got him with my subtle plan!
Baldrick: I can't see any subtle plan!
Lord Edmund Blackadder: Baldrick, you wouldn't see a subtle plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord, singing "Subtle plans are here again!"

Next plan ask him to come in.

Would you call all people who refuse to pay tax "idiots" ? What do the Thai get back for paying tax? There even is no police, look at the road what a mess it is.

Hey, I know. Use that article 44 thingy!

This must be the 10th time in the last few years that I have seen more or less the exact plan being laid out by Thai authorities.  Do it already!

If it was some insignificant political fugitive holed up the army would be ordered to bring in the tanks to flush him out. Why is it they pussyfoot around with this righteous pretender? My guess is there are too many big shots on the receiving end of his ill gotten gains who will be severely burned.

" Paiboon declined to give details of the plans ..."

That's a first. Probably about to bust a gasket over keeping a secret....

I think they should make a plan to meet up in order to plan a plan making meeting.

Let the army loose like they did in 2010. The army had lots of practice shooting their way in and disregarding the collateral damages.

They'll need to set up a committee to consider the plan to meet etc !

Plan A: arrest monk if no resistance

Plan B: if any resistance, abort, call news conference to announce development of Plan C

Plan C: time to complete another 3 months

I am just sorry I haven't been following this interesting story from the beginning........ah what year was the beginning?

What will really be nuts is if they have to force their way into the temple to arrest him, they will then take him back to the police station where he will be granted bail. Then we can go through all of this again or the guy will just do a runner. Case closed.

God help us all if another country were to attack us and this lot of pussies were still in charge.

Great idea. Go there and see for yourself.

Does anyone know if he is still there??

The Japanese invasion of Thailand occurred on 8 December 1941. It was fought between Thailand and the Empire of Japan. It is said the fighting resistance in southern Thailand, lasted only 4 ½ hours before ending in a ceasefire.

well the army in thailand is very good at not getting into any combat situations so i dont think we will have to worry about that. someone must be getting brown envelopes to delay all of this. monk must have had enough time to get away by now.

The plan will be that it it is best not to have a plan so that secrecy is preserved.

Straight from the war room. Take no prisoners. Seems I read in the English newspaper that they had a 1,000 soldiers or BIB involved in this fiasco. Attention criminals nobody is minding the store.
