UBON: -- Twenty people went to Ubon police yesterday to claim that a top university swindled them out of money for student loans.

They say that their private details were used by someone at the UMT to apply for student loans that they knew nothing about.

One of the claimants - Praitoon Joomaphan, 30 - was typical of the claimants who went to Ubon police yesterday, reports Thairath.

She said that she applied to go to UMT in 2006 and filled in the necessary forms and paid a 500 baht registration fee. But she changed her mind and went to work in Samut Prakarn instead.

Nothing happened for nine years. But last year out of the blue she was stunned when she was asked to pay back a student bank loan of 94,900 baht despite never having any tuition at the said university.

Police are set to investigate the claims after a several other people reported the same crime earlier.

......"Trust us we are Thai".......:cheesy::cheesy:

Just sign here, here  and here.......I'll fill out the paperwork for you........bye bye.  :wacko:

Just 2 days ago, i watch on thai news that 30million baht was stolen by a bank employee from Bangkok Bank off a plantation owner's bank account for a period of over 10 years.

Cases like these usually involved someone working and of a senior position in the bank for authorizing the loans and withdrawal of large amounts.

My bangkok bank account was deducted twice for airplane tickets after i paid by visa. the 1st time was correct n paid to the airlines.

The 2nd time was deducted a few days later n no sms was sent to my phone.

By fate or karma, i actually went to update my bank book half an hr after the deduction and found out about it.

Called the bank n they sent me on a merry go round wild goose chase to the airline.

Went to the bank next day n finally found out it was a mistake of the finance..

"Mistake" or not, check and update your bank book regularly in Thailand.
