Featured Replies

Members of the opposition CNRP have denied rumors of an internal rift in the party, saying yesterday that Sam Rainsy was still their leader even though Kem Sokha, his deputy, had been chosen as minority leader of the party’s members in the National Assembly. CNRP spokesman Yim Sovann told Khmer Times yesterday that the decision to appoint Mr. Sokha as minority leader was submitted to the General Secretariat of the National Assembly on Monday evening and senior CNRP official Yem Ponhearith would assume the position of vice-president.

The head of the party is responsible for leading the party’s elected members, completing relevant work in accordance with the party’s platform and policies, as well as coordinating with other parties in parliament to “ensure the interests of the nation and its citizens.”

For the ruling CPP, the nominal head of the party in parliament is Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng, while Keat Chhon and Men Sam An serve as vice-presidents. The majority leader is Prime Minister Hun Sen.
