I took my application for a 60 day tourist visa to the counter--It has to be in by 1:00. The nice young lady asked me if I needed "one or two." Since I already had my plane ticket (gave her printed itenerary) i said one--she asked for 25us and told me it would be ready two days later and I could pick it up in person between 12:30 and 1:00. Two photos were required. The form says 2 inch by 2 inch. I gave her 2 standard passport photos, which were suprisingly alright. I returned two days later before 12:30 (about 12:15). A nice young man waived me up to the counter and handed me my passport with my new visa. I must enter Thailand within 90 days. I asked if I decided to stay longer (like 5 months total) could he give me another 60. He said use the one I was issued, then get an extension. Then, go to the border twice for 30s. So, therefore, the 60 and the extension DO NOT count towards the 90 days within a 180 day period rule. It was a very pleasant experience. A far cry from those folks at the Thai Embassy in Vientiane. Even got metered parking in Georgetown.

Thanks for that Thighlander! Lots of folks on here trying to get others worked up and worrying about the state of things saying our days of running these borders are numbered. That's just SQUAB-HOLLER!! Only thing that's changed is the way the folks down at immigration want us to do things. It's hard to get accurate info on this whole visa mess but if more guys would just take the time to talk with officials (Don't forget to say Sawasdeekrap and give a wai ) and ask them just how us decent folks are meant to go on living here with no income. That right there is when you get enlightened. Take it from me.
