Celebrations due for Thai fragrant jasmine rice winning title of world's finest

 

BANGKOK, 8 December 2016 (NNT) – Celebrations will be held for the Thai fragrant jasmine rice to have won the title of the world's finest from the World Rice Conference held in Chiang Mai during 16-18 November. 

Commerce Ministry Permanent Secretary Wiboonlak Ruamrak said that Thailand’s fragrant jasmine rice was named the world’s finest and the Rice Exporters Association of Thailand will organize a party to celebrate the victory among over 50 rice samples from various countries. 

Rice experts sampled different strains before choosing the winner solely based on the appearance and taste of each of the genuses of rice. 

The party will be held on 8 December 2016 at Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok. The Associations of Thai Farmers, the Thai Rice Mill Association, major Thai rice importers and the embassies of the countries which had bought Thai rice have been invited to the event. 

Thai Rice Exporters Association President Charoen Laothammathas said that the prize was testament to the Thai fragrant jasmine rice's top ranking in the world and as a pride of all the Thai people. 

He said that total rice exports will amount to more than 9.5 million to 10 million tons throughout this year.

Maybe Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, U.S.A. etc etc???

So, Thailand can now claim to have the largest stockpiles of the world's finest rice.

 

Unfortunately, it "don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world" if you can't sell it to others !!!

 

 

Why is the celebration being held in Bangkok? How much rice is grown in the Bangkok area? No doubt, the party will be full of officials from the various organisations. I don't expect any of the real farmers will make it to the party, as due to the low price of rice they will not be able to fund the trip!

Please be kind if I'm being stupid here !! But how can anyone else win a award for Thai Jasmine  rice other than Thailand ! Just saying !
