overstayed son (not thai and under 15 years old), and his new passport

Featured Replies

i applied for a new passport for my son.

i'm British and his mum is Swedish.

my son has a swedish passport.  - we are all long term in bangkok (10 years already, tourist visas).

i already know that kids (under 15) are exempt from being punished/fined for overstay.

my son has not been out of thailand for 3 years, so he has overstayed 3 years.

recently he got a new passport and we will go to London to see the family over the new year.

I know I can just let the immigration guys at the airport take care of his passport overstay and transfer from old passport to new passport, but because its 3 years overstay, I dont want to risk them telling us to go to  Chang Wattana immigration and missing our flight. (coz 3 years is a pretty long time to overstay, even if he is a kid).

My question:

if I go to chang wattana in advance to do this (so that we have no problems at the airport), is it a free service to transfer the visa and update his visa overstay ? or is it 1,900 baht ?

also:

if they update his visa, i assume they update it to todays date? and thus he would be overstaying again tomorrow. (or do they give an extra 7 days?)

Thank you ;)

No problem or long delay at the airport.

Chaeng Wattana probably would tell you to take care of it at the airport on departure. If they did anything they would do a 7 days to leave the country stamp after you pay 1900 baht for an extension application.

You live here long term on tourist visas?? Your whole family??

is there any option to transfer the visa at chang wattana without getting an extension do you think ?

is the 1900 for the extra 7 days ? (or for for bringing it 'up to date')

I mean:  can I ask them to transfer the visa and not extend it beyond today ? (thus avoiding the 1900 extension fee)?

i know the airport is possible,, but because he is overstayed 3 years,, i do fear them complaining (despite his age is under 15).

Visa Runs are annoying!! Why don't you get a job and a work permit?? How can you live your life, with a family to support, not knowing if you will be refused entry to the country every time you leave? Recently there have been many instances of people with tourist visas being refused entry if they have lived here for more than 180 days in the last year. I would recommend that you find a better and more stable way of living here and then you won't have any visa issues or overstay issues. Otherwise your home country would probably be a better choice for you and your families future. Good Luck!!

I assumed that people getting refused were the ones with the 'free' (visa-on-entry) 30 day or 15 days stamp.

i have never had any problems entering thailand with my 60 days tourist visa stickers.

(ok, I did have one problem a few months ago, butt this was nothing to do with my visa status. it was because my passport was damaged and I had to get an emergency passport, and it worked out ok).

but I have never had any visa problems with immigration, ever.

i always get a new passport every 1.5 years (so my passport does not have too many visa-stamps in it).

Vientiane immigration told me that they dont care how many times I have been in thailand,,, and that they just care that my passport is not full of stamps. so they advised me to get a new passport to keep it looking 'fresh'.

i do not want to work here in thailand. the salary is low and also I homeschool my own son, so I dont have the time to take a real job here.

I did try an "Education Visa" for one year (study thai language with a school in Bangkok), but it usually took about 4 to 9 hours at chang wattana and they usually only gave a 1 or 2 month extension, so it was a hassle, and I really got bored from the thai lessons.

if worse comes to worse I can always change my name and get a new passport and start over again,, Lol

There is no valid visa to transfer and immigration does not transfer them if they are valid.  Only his entry stamp from 3 years ago will be transferred.

Immigration will not do anything unless the overstay can be cleared by doing a overstay stamp and granting 7 days to leave after paying 1900 baht for an extension.

The airport does not send people to a immigration an office no matter how long  they have overstayed. Adults have left with several years of overstay and it was done at the airport.

.....but have you been asked of any recommendation regarding life style? its beyond your position and kinda Self-assertive to apply your own standards to other peoples life, IMO.

what does it matter to you how others manage their outcome ? guess what, some dont need to work , due regular  income from their homecountry....and BTW, as long they could manage their stay based on TR Visa, its all fine isnt it

Aaah ... a case of different strokes for different folks. I fear the adjustment for our Mr. easybullet returning home may be just too much. My concern is for the son and what future lies ahead for him living in country which does not accept him.
