Visa on arrival for 4yo uk national with Thai mum?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can my 4 year old English son get a visa on arrival in Thailand to stay 45 days if he arrives with his mum who is a thai passport holder?

Wondering if we need to get him a longer visa before he travels?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Andy

If his mom is Thai he is Thai also.

If she knows what she is doing she can get him a Thai passport, and therefore  he does not need a visa to enter Thailand at all.

However, if he arrives on a U.K. passport he will need a visa but he can not be charged with overstay because he is still a minor.

He can get a single entry tourist visa which will get him an entry of 60 days  on arrival and can be extended (by parent or parents) for anotther 30 days in country at your local immergratin office for a 1900 Baht fee also.

Thank you for feedback, has put my mind at rest.

Had thoughts of Son getting turned away!

I'm joining them half way through their stay for 3 weeks.

Im uk national, take it they will issue me 30 day tourist visa on arrival?

Thanks again :)

If you registered your child's birth at the embassy in London you could get them a passport. The embassy is the only place that their birth can be registered.

Info here: http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/191

Your child can enter on a UK passport and get a 30 day visa exempt entry.

You can also enter and get a 30 day visa exempt entry (it is not a visa on arrival). You may be asked to show a ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival to board your flight.

A Visa on Arrival gives a stay of 15 days and you are not entitled to one anyway.

You will get a 30 day Visa Exempt entry.

Thank you for your help and experience.

Apart from the Thai passport, is there any other benefit of registering my sons birth at the Thai embassy?

My wife and I are still married, although seperated for 4 years.

Ive got it in my head that if my son entered Thailand with his mum on an English passport and for whatever reason didnt return, the British embassy would be more likely to assist me in securing Sons return if he entered on a uk passport.

Is there any truth in my assumption?

Are the any other things i need to be aware of should this situation arise?

I dont think this will happen but just want to make sure ive got all my bases covered.

Thanks

If you ever want to use your parenthood to get a one year extension at immigration they would not accept the application without a Thai birth certificate and house book registry. You also would not be able to get a 60 day extension without it.

For your child it is important since that is the required proof they are a Thai national. Many have had to jump through a lot of hoops as adults because their parents neglected to register their birth.

Could not registering his birth at the Thai embassy cause an issue with my son getting single entry 60 day tourist visa on arrival?

I'm sure it won't as by definition he's a tourist. Or is that needed as proof that my wife is his mum?

They travel beginning of Jan so we'd have to get a move on if it's an issue.

It will have no effect for his trip using the UK passport. He will get a 30 day visa exempt entry not a tourist visa that can be extended for 30 days.

With his UK birth certificate showing his mother is a Thai he could get a one year extension as a returning Thai national.

There is no single entry 60 day tourist visas on arrival. He could apply for a 60 day tourist visa at embassy/consulate in advance.
