Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha encourages members of the audience to exercise briefly, while giving a speech during an event to mark International Anti-Corruption Day at Mahidol University yesterday.

BANGKOK:-- The government aims to increase public awareness of national corruption to 50 per cent by 2021, by integrating His Majesty the late King’s sufficiency-economy theory into the third phase of the national anti-corruption strategic plan, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on the occasion of “International Anti-Corruption Day” yesterday.

Due to the country’s relatively low ranking in the international Corruption Perception Index (CPI) last year, the government had made its anti-corruption mission a priority as it was a matter that required urgent resolution to stop further, long-term damage to the state, Prayut said.

Did his brother with wife and son join the PM on the podium ?

The government aims to increase public awareness of national corruption to 50 per cent by 2021

But, but...........aren't the public already 100% aware of the endemic problem?

He even had straight face when he said it.:cheesy:

Yes yes! In 5 years we will start addressing the national problem of graft. I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation!

Probably not because it's considered "business as usual" or "Thainess."

They really are beyond contempt when it comes to (not) stopping each other from stealing from State coffers.

You're not familiar with the term "kleptocracy"? It's a one-word definition of those who run Thailand

And soon the U.S. if it's not happening already - to some degree.

Repeal defamation and computer crime laws and provide state protection for whistleblowers. BAM, I just reduced the problem by 50% in two steps, not 5 years.

Is this another Gunna Do ? and is that a double Sieg Heil or exercise

While, no doubt, making sure that he and his cronies and other people of influence continue to consolidate and improve upon their financial situations.

So that means now no Thai  elections til  2022?

'The Government got the chance to take office', said the leader.

'Take office' is a good one (implying a decent democratic process): stole office is more correct.

Can there be any higher, more outrageous example of mass corruption than that!

Yes and all the while some/most Thai villages don't have adequate or readily available drinking water, trash pickup, flood drainage, or proper sewage disposal, paved roads etc.

Would elections in Thailand really matter? Just one band of thieves or another. So what's the difference? Oh well the village people would get cash in hand for their votes - as usual.

The difference is that by voting the people can choose which band of thieves they want

" He also emphasised that the next government should be transparent and open to scrutiny."

So in other words, he and his cronies will fill their pockets and let the next government take the necessary steps to actually fight corruption.

Of course with the sham constitution approved in the sham referendum, the generals can ensure that transparency and scrutiny don't apply to them.

I'm sure they make enough from royalties and touring.

"Prime minister sets five-year goal to ease graft problem"

"Ease" the graft problem. That's like trying to make an expectant mother who doesn't want to have the baby a "little less pregnant".

The unwanted situation is there. Either you do everything possible to eliminate it, or you don't. This is just a politician saying what the people want to hear, without having an effective program to solve the problem. In fact I'm so sure of this that I'm going down to the local gambling den and put my money on....It ain't gonna happen.

So his exercise program is to they can run away faster carrying more loot.

Controlling the population is way more a priority than dealing with graft.  We just pay lips services to graft so we can control the population.

Prime Minister = the head of an elected government; the principal minister of a sovereign or state.

Stop calling him Prime Minister....He is the chairman of the Junta/Coup nothing more

Or head of the army which has seized power from the elected government nothing more.

Start calling him PM he might believe it

Better make that 50 years  General with an option of another 50...............................:cheesy:

elections are pointless anyway, you can only vote for those we tell you too..................whole countries a  joke

All this healthy exercise must be giving him inspiration. So this new target of 5 years is just to increase awareness of graft and corruption; nothing about fixing it. A general memo to the RTP would be a good start, letting them know that everyone is aware of their sharp tricks.

Presumably he still sticks to his 20 year timetable to eliminate it (19 years and 6 months left to go).

Must've been a very short speech.

He set the same goal and also many reforms like the RTP which is the hub of  corruption when he stage the coup. Meaningless goal and will not impress anyone. Lots to clean up in his own backyard.

"Ease the problem" meaning what exactly?

Make it easier to get away with it yet make it look as if there is real progress in stopping it?

Sure, that's a challenge and might take some time to achieve. Currently, there is graft and all know it, but mostly accepted.

If they were serious, they could do a REAL crackdown and stamp it out relatively quickly.

But then incompetence goes hand in hand with being on the take.
