PM meets top M’sia general, vows end to crisis in South

By The Nation

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the chief of Malaysia’s armed forces met at Government House yesterday to ensure continued effort to find a solution to end the long-running insurgency in the deep South.

General Zulkifeli Mohd Zin Zulkifeli highlighted Malaysia’s role as facilitator in the peace process, citing the high-level committee consisting of officials from relevant agencies of both countries including security, Deputy Government Spokesman Lt-General Werachon Sukondhapatipak said.

"vows end to crisis in South"

A "vow" was taken.  That is serious, though the word "vow" does get used on a daily basis at government house.

Peace will be an illusion as long as muslims exist there so whats the point of this. Focus off some busses?

Just 2 generals having cigars and whiskey. As you age you have watched this political baffle gab time and again and nothing but hot air ever comes of it. Its just political posturing, bowing and of course hot air. After they  have puffed up their ego's they each return to a neutral corner and the war goes on.

Extremists won't let it happen...anywhere!

That has got to be the easiest high paid job in Malaysia. There's been no formal peace process by the RTM ever since it rejected its own agreed to peace initiatives with insurgent umbrella organization MARA Patani last year. Since then Prayut has focused instead on using social, educational and economic programs to buy the "hearts and minds" of the Malay-Thais and sidestep negotiations with MARA.

The RTM refuses to recognize the root cause of the insurgency - colonization, cultural and ethnic "reconditioning" of the Malay-Thais of the former Islamic Kingdom of Patani. Prayut vowed an end of the "crisis' in 2014, 2015, then 2016. Now vowing 201?

What is wrong with government officials nowadays? (Officials is the wrong word and I certainly do  not to use the word 'representatives'). In the good old days(?) when they (the government of the day) vowed to end something (corruption, traffic jams and poverty are a few things that come to mind) they always gave a time limit of 6 months, or thereabouts.

More 'vowing' hot air...
