BANGKOK:-- A raiding party at two "traditional Thai massage parlors" caused a stir as almost three dozen girls tried to flee the scene.

Thirty soldiers and police, acting on a tip about illegal foreign workers from the public, raided the two venues in Nakorn Pathom yesterday.

They had to block exits as 32 girls jumped up and tried to escape.

A check found that the girls were aged 22 to 35 and all had work permits. But they were not working according to what was specified on the permit and the place of work was not correct either.

The owners were not around and police are seeking them to get to the bottom of whether the Nakorn Chai and Som O parlors have the necessary licenses to operate.

However, no evidence of human trafficking was found and none of the girls was underage.

Is this a real news item? There were no underage girls on premises. They were not working according to what was specified on the permit and the place of work was not correct either? What does this mean? Their work permit specified another location? Is that a big deal? What were they supposed to be doing? Only massage? Do any of those officials really take themselves seriously, if they thought this place was only promising massage services? Is this just a game for them? Livelihoods are at stake here.

But it's good promotion for the 2 massage parlours, as we now know the names and locations and the ages of the masseurs. All we need is the Facebook pages and we're right.

Who knows what it says on their work permits?

It could be a way to make trafficked woman look legal and should be investigated.

Provide therapeutic massage services?

Not therapeutic, but "traditional". No work permits for non-Thais and no ones at all for what it really is. Tai yei girls, well accepted, looks like there had been some business conflict.

cops have nothing better to do than that ?

perhaps that is all they can handle...seems as though real law enforcement falls on the shoulders of the military...but raiding a massage parlor or brothel? that's when the police feel compelled to actually try and work...

Vague reporting by the Daily News.  The story is hardly news at all.

The junta and the less than nimble minds that follow them seem to like busting Thais over the most inane infractions; shisha tobacco, women with work permits that were working in a job not stated on their permits, taxi parking in Pattaya.

The rest of the police force were doing other things, you will find that here are more than 30 personnel in the entire RTP and RTA.  Do you not think that reports of human trafficking should be acted on?

No happy ending to this story...maybe if the cops and soldiers learned how to enforce traffic regulations instead?

I suppose you have to decide whether you consider traffic offences to be more serious than the human trafficking report that the police had received.

You forgot to mention human trafficking that they were clearly investigating or is that just another "inane infraction" in your mind?
