Thailand Gives Train Engine to Cambodia

Featured Replies

Thailand will provide a train engine to Cambodia for the transport of goods and tourists between the two countries, according to a government official.  Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha made the promise to provide the train engine in response to efforts to increase trade and tourists between the two Kingdoms, said ruling CPP lawmaker Hun Many on Monday after wrapping up an official trip to Thailand where he met with Mr. Prayut.

Mr. Many, the youngest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen, said the train engine would be used on the new rail line once a connection is made, which is scheduled to occur before the end of the year.  “In a nearly hour-long meeting with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, His Excellency said the train engine would be delivered soon,” Mr. Many said.

Last week, Transport Minister Sun Chanthol confirmed that the official railway link between Cambodia and Thailand would be made by year’s end. He added that Mr. Hun Sen and Mr. Prayut would cross the border together by train at the official inauguration ceremony. However, the date of the ceremony has yet to be revealed.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Last month I saw the tracks being laid through the center of Poipet. They removed my favorite little outdoor cafe in front of the Poipet Casino Hotel. It will be nice if it connects to Siem reap and Phnom Penh.

This is great news. But just one engine? I'm assuming Cambodia has several more

Which year?

Wasn't the Australian transport company TOLL rebuilding the rail system and supplying rolling stock

if we are talking about the same cafe?

the one photographed above.

that too was my favorite cafe.

hard to understand that the tracks could run thru the site of the cafe.

the passage is narrow and carries the road and the entrance to the casino.

it is surrounded by buildings or have they been demolished also?

and then there is the roundabout and all of the cambodian immigration buildings

leading on to the main road.

have all the immigration facilities been demolished also.

there seems to be a motto in cambodia that if a building is useful

or old or beautiful we will demolish it - progress.

Yes that cafe is gone, the tracks are on the left side of the road, immigration is on the right.

I just came back from a great 5 days in Poipet. There is a very good place for breakfast and lunch and coffee and Wifi. It is the Crown Coffee, across from the Crown casino. read my review on Tripadvisor.

They lost the contract

Since Malaysia has mostly gone all electric Cambodia may be able to get some trains from them.

Thailand gives train engine, hope it isnt 1 from SRT, as all the engines are knackered.
