Three Drown in Canal Accident

Featured Replies

Three elderly women perished in a car crash Monday night in Kep province after their vehicle veered off a curve in the road and plunged into a three-meter deep canal, police said. Damnak Chang’Eur district police officer Un Neng said the three women, along with the driver who survived, were traveling from Kampot province’s Kampong Trach district to a housewarming party in Damnak Chang’Eur district.

Police ruled out drunk driving as the cause of the crash and said instead that it could have been due to the driver speeding down a curved stretch of road. “It happened at 8pm. They were traveling to their nephew’s house-warming party in Damnak Chang’Eur district. The driver was not drunk,” Mr. Neng said.

“At the scene of the accident, there was a curve in the road, but the driver was unaware and drove straight at a pretty high speed, so the car ended up in the canal. “The canal is three meters deep. How could they survive? They died instantly,” he added.
