Convert to retirement extension from SETV or Non-imm including dependent wife

Featured Replies

Quick question for the experts.  What is the easiest way to convert to a 1 year retirement extension including applying for wife's dependent visa(we are British).

I am mainly concerned about the time and financial requirements to make sure the funds 800k THB are properly seasoned.

Could we both enter on a SETV, deposit the 800K in a bank and convert over to the retirement extension.

Could we do it at the same time, or would I have to do it first, and then go back again on a different day and convert the wifes.

If living in Jomtien could this all be done there or would it require a trip to Bkk.

If insufficient time, would it be better to enter on a 90 day non-imm?

Thanks for advice.

If you enter on a tourist visa you would first have to apply for a change of visa status to obtain a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry based upon qualifying for an extension of stay based upon retirement. The 800k baht would only need to be in the bank on the date of application (no need for 60 days).

But your wife would not be able to get the visa as your dependent since immigration does not do them. She would have to go to a nearby embassy or consulate to apply for it.

It would be best if you could get single entry non-o visas before traveling to here if possible. Then apply for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa or when you have the 800k baht in the bank for 60 days.

If you cannot get the non-o visa before traveling the next best option would be for both of you to go to Vientiane Laos to get your visas. You would need to show the 800k baht in the bank to get the visa.

thanks ubonjoe.....I think the non-imm visa sounds best for both of us at point of origin...could you please specify which non-imm visa and which docs required for both husband and wife.

Thank you.

It would be a non immigrant O visa (non-o). What would be required would depend upon where you apply for it.

Generally if you are both 50 or over it would be based upon your age so all that would be needed is your passports to prove your age. If you wife is under 50 she would get one as your dependent which would require your marriage.

In your home country or country of legal residence you would only be able to get the visa at honorary Thai consulate since most embassies and official Thai consulates will only issue a NON-OA visa which requires a financial proof. medical and police checks.

Ubonjoe,

I am over 50 and wife under 50.....would I have to get the non-Imm OA and the wife get the simple non-imm O as a dependent.  Would we both have to jump though all the hoops, health, police checks etc, or only me as the primary applicant.

Thank you

Only you would need to meet the requirements for the OA visa. Your wife would apply for a single entry non-o visa and then apply for an extension as your dependent.
