December 15, 20169 yr I think I see trash floating on the water in that pic? I do believe there are much better places to use this money.

How else are they going to clean up the trash and the turds you'd notice if the photo was a scratch and sniff? That takes money, and everyone in BKK within sniffing distance will benefit. I can't think of a better place to spend some money. How much? Good question. At 325 million baht, that's about a dollar or 2 for each person within nose shot. Seems pretty reasonable. How about use that money, and a bit more, to really clean up all the canals. Get rid of the buildings that block them from draining properly, etc. I'd but a significant amount of that money will go to nice flower pots and places to sit. LOL

LOL The linked article mentions a wastewater treatment plant and a dam. $9 million is probably only enough to take care of that, and improve the bridges. I suspect the rest of the beautification would take care of itself if they just cleaned up the water, stocked fish to eat any mosquito larvae, and made it a little deeper- so people would want to hang around. Keep in mind, its almost a mile long. The photo only shows a hundred meters or so. Picture 10-15 times that area. It could be quite a benefit to Bangkok. Edited December 16, 20169 yr by impulse
December 16, 20169 yr I hope they don't gentrify it up too much...It has been used as a location in many movies made locally as well as TV shows. Nicholas Cage did some scenes there for "Bangkok Dangerous" Lousy film, btw.
December 16, 20169 yr Yes clean it up and make it deeper so the pesky longtailboats with open exhausts can race there instead of infront of the 5* riverrestaurants. Last night i had the best steak ever at the riverside, half litre Hoegaarden with that, great live music it was all perfect except those noisy longtailboats racing by every minute. Bangkok needs more water anyway, build nice terraces around them in the shade of big tree's and tourists will love it. Some english garden flowerbeds with it, a fountain and we have a great place to relax.

At less than a mile, I wouldn't be surprised to see them knocking off Italian gondolas and making a killing on romantic tourists. I hope they take singing lessons to make it more like the old movies. Hell, I'd even pay for a gondola ride. And it's been decades since anyone called me romantic. Edited December 16, 20169 yr by impulse
