Customs Dept seizes 45-million-baht contraband items in southern border areas

BANGKOK, 20 December 2016 (NNT) – The Customs Department seized some 45 million baht in contraband goods smuggled in southern border areas.

Customs Department Director General Kulit Sombatsiri said some 300 items had been smuggled in the southern border areas and confiscated by the authorities, including watches, perfumes, eyeglasses, women’s handbags, clothes, cell phones and sneakers as well as 16,000 kilograms of frozen cattle meat.

The seized contraband and counterfeit items were valued at about 45 million baht while the smuggled meat was found contaminated with E.Coli bacteria and yet to be destroyed.

The Customs Department chief said the department is closely tracking down on smuggling suspects at airports and seaports, especially in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province during the upcoming New Year holidays.

300 items worth 45 million baht.  That's about $4,200 (USD) per item.

Unless, of course, one of them was a Lamborghini and the other 299 of them were perfumes, sneakers, and the other items described in the OP.
