Cabinet approves New Year traditional celebrations

BANGKOK, 21 December 2016 (NNT) - The Cabinet has approved a proposal to organize a traditional-Buddhist New Year celebration nationwide while Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha urged every sector to help lower road fatalities this year.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut expressed his concerns about road safety and encouraged relevant agencies to do their best to lower the accidents. He also said regarding the arrival of 2017 that he hoped the situation in the country will be peaceful and full of happiness next year.

According to Assistant Spokesperson to the Prime Minister’s Office Col Taksada Sangkhachan, the Cabinet gave a green light to a proposal to kick off the New Year in a traditional way.

On New Year’s Eve, a bell will be sounded by monks nine times at temples across the country. This will be followed by a prayer ceremony and a candle procession.

An alms giving ceremony will be held the following morning. In addition, the Cabinet has instructed 15 border provinces to organize the prayer ceremony for ASEAN countries and 504 Thai temples overseas to join the bandwagon.

It's that happiness thing rearing it's head again.

But agreed, hopefully not the carnage on the roads that we see every year.

You WILL be happy. He says so.

Carnage the same. Lessons never learned.

Merry Christmas everyone!

And no fireworks....thank you very much.

Is your CCTV working ?

" Prime Minister Gen Prayut expressed his concerns about road safety "

then why doesn't the Prime Minister appoint a decent transport Minister to upgrade Road safety standards and actively enforce the law?:shock1:

Happy new year everyone. Hope you like being told what to do by your self-appointed government.

Family and I are off to Hong Kong to ring in the New Year and have a little fun, BKK is becoming a major bore.

I suppose the good news is when we return we'll be counted as tourist arrivals which should keep the TAT happy.

Traditional New Year celebration nationwide…

For the Thais in my hood it is well known as the looong night of the coma boozers
