Thai Visa for American Fiancee

Featured Replies

I am an American living/working in Thailand on an "O" visa and my fiancee is also American who has been visiting using SETV. Thailand does not offer fiancee visas to unmarried spouses and we are trying to find a way for her to live here with me until we are married. We are well under retirement age so the long stay visa isnt an option. It sounds as if SETVs will also become more difficult to obtain more than 2x a year, so we are quite worried about our ability to make this work.

Appreciate any advice or similar experiences that others can share.

Thank you!

I don't know why you think it will not be possible to get more than 2 single entry tourist visas a year. Perhaps you are confusing visa exempt entries at land borders with them.

What is your non-o visa based upon.

What is holding up you getting married. It can be done here at an Amphoe.

Ubonjoe is correct as he usually is.

Perhaps your problem in NOT being legally married to your Thai fiancee  is that many Thai visas state the applicants must be married by law (De Jure) and in fact (legitimized marriage).

Partners living together , even of opposite sexes, are usually NOT regarded as married under Thai law unless there is a legimate marriage certifificate that can be shown.

It is still 1950 legally in Thailand and marrriage is the norm.

No "domestic partners" as in the U.S.
