Bridge for disabled officially given a go

Plans have been made to locate the bridge near the entrance to Redemptorist School/Father Ray Foundation area.

PATTAYA:-- The Department of Rural Roads has allocated 15 million baht to construct the long-delayed pedestrian bridge for the disabled over Sukhumvit Road.

Tithiwat Anuruthikul, head of operations for the Sukhumvit-Central roads bypass tunnel project, and Chawalit Jirayanyong of the Land Transport Department, said the bridge, which includes elevators for those unable to navigate steps, will be built within the tunnel-construction zone and should be finished by April.

The bridge, first proposed in 2013, will be located near the Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities, which has more than 300 students attending the facility, many of them needing to traverse the busy highway.

As an able bodied person i have difficulty avoiding the many hazards on the footpaths . How would  a disabled person be expected   to navigate  past telephone kiosks ,advertising posters , motorcycles etc to make use of the fine new bridge .

One of the many issues with the city - lack of pavements you can actually walk on.

We live in hope...

Pavements in Thailand are not built for walking on. They are built for the convenience of food vendors, hookers, touts and motorcyclists who want to travel against the flow of traffice. Where do you think you are... in some civilised country?
