4 days overstay and I know before entering in Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello all!

Not my first time in Thailand but will be my first overstay. What should I do please if I know before entering in the country that I will overstay for 4 days? Advice when I enter? Wait and go to immigration somewhere? Because I don't think they offer extension anymore for couple of days...I'm Canadian and now I'm in Philipinnes...there is a Thai consulate in Manila, should I go there instead (will be in Manila for 2 days soon)?

Thank you

i would think once in Thailand before your visa is up vist an immigration office and apply for an extension of stay, pay up and be happy....the experts will be along soon enough..

Very curious that you are expecting an overstay before arriving. $ days should not be a problem if you don't get caught by cops during that time, just $500 baht per day overstay and leave Thailand. But best to just get extension at Immigration for 1900 baht.

There are a number of options to prevent an overstay situation, but more information is required on your dates and method of entering Thailand. ( Visa exempt/Tourist Visa?)

Thank you all!

I will arrive december 31 and leave february 1. Arriving from Philipinnes by plane with normal visa 30 days for Canadian. I was in Thailand before and stay in Philipinnes for 10 days and now comeback.

Thanks

Canadians can enter Thailand for 30 days on a Visa exempt stamp (not a Visa) which I assume is the method you will enter Thailand.

This 30 days can be extended for another 30 days at a local Immigration office, giving a total of 60 days and will prevent receiving a fine, and overstay stamp in your passport, which is never good.

Where will you be staying in Thailand?

Since you are entering using a visa exempt entry you can go to immigration and get a 30 day extension, cost 1900 baht.

If you overstay without the extension it will cost you 500 baht/day, but is you are caught on overstay at a police check you will  be arrested!

Get the extension!

Best to apply for a 30 day extension at immigration. No worry that way.

One other caution, the airline that you are using from PI to BKK might not let you board if you do not have a flight exiting Thailand within 30 days of arrival>

Ok thank you all. I will get the extension.

Wayned, what company should I avoid because I have all sort of problem becaue Thai Airways force me to buy a plane ticket out of Philipinnes or refuse to give me my already paid ticket with them to go to Manila if I don't have a ticket out. So have to buy a tickey quick and now I don't think I will be able to change my date or cancel with Cebu

Any cheap ticket exiting Thailand from anywhere.  Hat Yai to KL on Air Asia used to be cheap but hpoefully someone will be along soon and help you as I haven't left Thailand since I entered on 29 March 1998!

Wow, that's a long time without leaving the country.

You should not need another ticket if you have one that is 34 days from arrival. Their main concern is that you have a ticket out incase you were denied entry.

I should have said by air, I did cross the border a few times at Sadao to activate my second entry on two double entry tourist visas and two double entry Non-O visas and three times at Mai Sot on a multiple entry Non-O.  All visas were issued in Penang but I have never been there in my life.  Visa services in Samui used to do it for you when its was semi-legal!

You can't be "semi-legal" nor "half pregnant" 555!

Get an old eticket or booking (from another airline) and copy it onto Microsoft word document... then change the dates to show your are leaving  within 28 days

Maybe it was actually legal.  When you went to the Sadao crossing and came back in there were agents in line with many passports with 100 baht notes hanging out of them crossing back into Thailand from Penang.  That's actually where I met the agent that I used in Samui from a travel office in Nathon.

Heh.  Yes, airlines can actually check and see if a ticket is real with their terminals - do not try that (the MS word trick).

When traveling to the PI once, I went digging for my outgoing ticket to show the airline, and she found it in her system first.

When I reached the PI, the border-agent at the airport asked me for it, and I went digging again - she just smiled, waved her hand, and stamped me in.

I rekon the 100 baht notes were an indication how legal it was.
