Visa base on invitation letter

Featured Replies

Hello to everybody,
I am an expat living in Thailand on retirement visa.
I would like to invite a Filipino friend to Thailand for some months.
Could somebody inform me which documents I must submit to the Thai Consulate in Manila? How many months can be allowed?
I tried to find the answer in this forum ( without success)
I tried to contact the Consulate in Manila but it is closed and my emails are rejected.
Thank you in advance.

They could only get a single entry tourist visa that will allow a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. If they wanted to stay longer the would have to go to a nearby embassy or consulate to get a new visa.

You could do a affidavit of support at the Philippine embassy in Bangkok that could make it easier to leave the Philippines. Download: http://www.bangkokpe.dfa.gov.ph/images/consular/affidavit/Affidavit-of-Support.pdf

Thank you ubonjoe.
Please let me ask you further information.

1) If I understand the procedure correctly, I must sign this form at the Philippine Consulate of Bangkok. Then I have to send it to my friend in Philippines. With this affidavit of support my friend will get the visa at the Thai Consulate in Manila. Right?

2) In order to get a new visa for other 60 days (+ 30) at a Thai Consulate nearby Thailand (maybe Vientiane?) should I produce a new affidavit of support?

3) How many times is it possible to renew this kind of visa?

Best regards

1. As I wrote before the affidavit would help them to leave the Philippines. They at times deny departure from the country without proof of what they are traveling for.

It would probably help with the visa application in Manila.

2. It would not be needed to apply for another visa at a nearby location.

3. By going to different embassies and consulates for a new visa it there might not be any limit on how many they could get.

I picked up some info from a Manila newspaper in March 2014, which may not be applicable today in 2017.

I told an American friend about the info and he claimed that he had no problem taking his Filipino girl friend and her 8-yr old son to Thailand with him in 2015.  No PI official questioned her leaving PI or asked for a written approval to leave by the father of her son.

Prior to his exiting PI, there were a few posts on other forums by guys who had girl friends denied boarding their departure flight.

Basically, the news article said that a Filipino partner (loosely defined to include almost everyone) needed two items in his/her Filipino passport:  Guidance Counseling Certificate and a Commission of Foreign Overseas sticker.  The partner has to go to the CFO office in Manila or Cebu and schedule counseling session(s) for a fee of 400 pesos.  Contact data were 02 552 4700 and www.cfo.gov.ph .  Various reasons were given for denial, including the partner's lack of background information about the foreigner.

By the way, there is a basic guide on Thailand's visa policy per country, which lacks details.  See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Thailand

Good luck.
