No major violent incidents during New Year holiday

BANGKOK, 3rd January 2017 (NNT) - The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau has expressed satisfaction with law enforcement efforts during the new year holidays, as no major violent incidents had occurred.

Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn revealed that law enforcement efforts since December 30 yielded no reports of incidents affecting national security. Arrests on New Year's Eve only consisted of violations of fireworks laws.

Meanwhile, officials have closely monitored the traffic situation and have swiftly stepped in to solve any congestion that may have occurred.

As for the policy of expunging minor traffic violations, Pol Lt Gen Sanit revealed that approximately 7,000 people have come to pay outstanding fines to qualify for the program and expects that the program will involve 10,000 participants by the program's conclusion on January 4. He confirmed that the policy is merely a short-term measure during the New Year season.

So 25 people dying in one accident and the body count at 367 with two more days to go does not count as a major incident. UFB.

as no major violent incidents had occurred

So all those who died in that terrible Chonburi accident is not classified as a 'major violent incident'    :w00t:

My guess is the definition of "major violent incidents" is as flexible as thai law enforcement

No "major violent incidents" could be how General Sanit Mahathavorn's 50,000 baht/month sponsors Thai Beverage might like to have it described. They are possibly hoping it might take the heat off drink driving. Money well spent.

Hundreds of people dead people. Stabbing, shootings, Numerous people burnt to death in cars/van.  None of that is considered major as it is an everyday occurrence in Thailand.

Let me repeat, these are thinks that are thought of as normal in Thailand and that is why it will never be any different.

TiT, LOS, Amazing Thailand. You name it, the country has a slogan for it.

Maybe he ignored this one:

One dead 6 injured in New Year shooting at Bangkok nightclub

Good thing those police don't read Thai Visa Forum.

...or messing with crocs on three separate occasions, or ex-police inspector killing two party-goers, or police not taking action on passenger van with bald tyres.   I suppose it's a case of "situation normal..."
