BANGKOK: -- THE ENERGY MINISTRY plans to commence its Demand Response (DR) scheme next hot season that will allow utilities to shut down selected electricity equipment remotely at the facilities of participating consumers, said ministry spokesman Twarath Sutabutr.

The DR programme comprises three major measures: critical peak pricing, interruptible load/direct load control, and emergency activation.

Under the scheme, power utilities will install a wireless shut-off switch on air-conditioners or other electricity-consuming equipment at participating consumers.

I must be one of the first as we frequently have power outages !

Koh Phangan has this all the time.  The only line into the island keeps over heating so they shut off power for 8 hours during the day to let it cool down.  Must happen about 5 times a year.  Plus you know the usual daily outages of 5 minutes to 2 hours

It will be interesting to see how much these wireless shut off switches for the a/c will cost, and who will pay
