PHUKET:-- Four people were injured when a six-wheeler crashed into the side of the road on Patong Hill early this morning.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene a little after 1:30am to find the truck on its side, with the driver and passengers still stuck inside.

“The truck was on it’s way from Patong to Phuket Town and had fallen over on its left side. We helped three of the occupants out, but the fourth one was stuck inside with his lower body trapped under the console,” Anit Jenrope of the Kusoldharm Rescue Foundation told the Phuket Gazette.

The fact that they report it as routine says a lot.
It's an embarrassment that the transportation system hasn't evolved in the life of Phuket tourism history. Village mentality killed the once rich industry.

“The truck was on it’s way from Patong to Phuket Town and had fallen over on its left side."

I wonder where the truck was going? To visit a cute little sports car? Was the truck drunk?

At least the Gazette is starting to report these incidents with the same skepticism most long term foreign residents have on the pathetic excuses issued by authorities.

They toed the line for a long time but seem to be pushing the envelope a bit again, as they did when a certain online blog provoked them into a bit more proper reporting (whatever did happen to that sad old man anyway? It all went very quiet).

'another routine Patong Hill crash' .... just sums it all it ... it's all routine and no real plan to educate the drivers.

"Education" costs money, this in turn effects profits - Thai's don't like losing money, no matter how many people die on the roads here.

Sad to say, but every time we use the road here, our lives are in the hands of a 300 baht a day Thai driver, many of whom are poor trained, have no experience with the vehicle they are driving, are possibly intoxicated and / or under the influence of of drugs, and if not, most likely fatigued.

Phuket roads are a time bomb ticking away for all of us - who's going to be next????

The lack of proper public transport is definitely holding the tourism industry on Phuket back, and we are really starting to see the effect of this, with a rapidly shrinking western tourist market.

As is standard practice in Phuket, officials claim that "heavy rain and slippery roads" actually made it impossible for the driver to brake in time. Therefore, no charges for property damage or reckless driving have been filed.

"Therefore, no charges for property damage or reckless driving have been filed." - unless the driver was a foreigner.
