I previously had a work permit and extension of stay based on that work permit.

 

At Christmas, I renewed my WP, and obtained a 1 year multiple entry non B Visa from the UK.

 

I entered Thailand last week and used my new Visa, giving me a 90 day stamp.

 

My old extension of stay is set to expire at the end of Jan.  

 

My Question: Do i need to go and cancel the extension of stay? or, do i just let it expire?

 

If I do need to go and cancel it, can it be done in Chiang Mai, or does it have to be done at Chaengwattana in BKK where the extension was granted?

I am guessing your "old extension of stay" is from before you went home for Christmas.  If so, it died as soon as you stamped out of Thailand, unless you obtained a re-entry permit.  Any old permission-date related to it is now irrelevant.

 

As you now have a Multi-entry Non-B Visa (not an extension of stay), you can get 90-days "permission of stay" from any entry into Thailand up until the "enter before" date on the visa.  The only downside, is you must leave every 90 days, even if just for a border-bounce (anywhere but Aranyaprathet/Poipet).  Have your work-permit with you on these trips, as some IOs will ask to see it.

For all intents and purposes you extension of stay is already gone since you you have a new permit to stay date from the non-b visa. Only a re-entry permit keeps an extension valid when you enter the country.
