Traveling can quickly go from a dream to a nightmare when you are faced with the wrong airline. Bad food and cold cabins are just the beginning of the issues you can face when flying the friendly — or not so friendly — skies.

Consider, for example, delayed flights. That’s what FlightStats considered when they compiled their “On-time Performance Service Awards” list of the best and worst airlines of 2016. The results, based solely on which flights were delayed and which were on-time, might surprise you.

The 10 most delayed international airlines in 2016 (percentage of flights delayed)

1. El Al (56%)

2. Icelandair (41.05%)

3. Air India (38.71%)

4. Philippine Airlines (38.33%)

5. Asiana Airlines (37.46%)

6. China Eastern Airlines (35.8%)

7. Hong Kong Airlines (33.42%)

8. Air China (32.73%)

9. Korean Air (31.74%)

10. Hainan Airlines (30.3%)

A general comment, most of the flight delays for departure and arrival are due to over capacity at Suvarnabhumi airport. Flights are placed in holding patterns due to air traffic congestion or delayed from departing. Apparently, some Thai airlines have priority landing rights. Bangkok Airways obviously don't have this special privilege. It will only get worst until this annoying bottleneck is properly resolved.

Even if the picture might make one think, be aware that the report does not refer to Thailand/Suvarnabhumi specifically.

It's kind of a global statistics from flightstats, a well known website with info about nearly all passenger air traffic worldwide..

And the referal to Nok Air also has nothing to do with Suvarnabhumi.

Don't they have proof readers at "coconuts"?

89.4% delayed is most on-time :cheesy:

Someone told you that from an adjacent bar stool?

Or you have a more credible source?

Surprised that AirAsia is not high on the list... maybe they only looked at Swampy and not DMK!!!!

At #4 - Philippine Airlines - no surprise there. Manila is still a single runway in the middle of a major urban center and shares it with a cargo hub, a general aviation hub and an active military airbase!!!! so every time some general wants to take off in his private plane the commercial airliners have to circle waiting for a slot.

Manila is often voted "worst airport in the world"

The logo for Philippine Airlines is PAL - known to the locals as "Plane Always Late"

There is very little holding flying into BKK if any at all. Two runways in operation and the air traffic controllers can space everybody in without any holding. The only aircraft that have priority are the RTAF with higher than VIP people onboard.

That is nonsense. Since they started to operate out of DMK instead of BKK, ThaiAirAsia (unlike their Malaysian and particularly Indonesian counterparts) must be one of the most punctual airlines worldwide.

I just went to http://www.flightstats.com

and checked three of their domestic routes (DMK -> UTH, CNX, HKT).

All three have excellent "on time ratings" (4.9 to 5 out of 5).

That's domestic.

Is your statment based on personal experience or statistic? I am interested to know because I heard long time ago about Air Asia having bad reputation. However, for the last 3 years, i am having 4 flights per week, domestic and international, only with Air Asia so let say more than 100 flights a year and for the last 3 years, only few of my flights been delayed mostly due to weather condition. Maybe I have been lucky so far.
