Floods take out Phuket TOT internet backbone

PHUKET: TOT customers across Phuket and elsewhere throughout Southern Thailand are without internet and phone services this afternoon (Jan 10) after floods in Prachuap Khiri Khan rendered the company’s fibre-optic backbone for the South useless.

TOT posted on its Facebook page today, “As the floods severed a bridge in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, our fibre-optic cable is damaged. We are fixing it immediately and will be back to normal within two hours.

Errrr- from the article it appears the cables actually snapped when a bridge was washed out, not water getting into the cables- any chance for a dig from some though.

ToT hit the jackpot.

Seems only their cable(s) ran along the collapsed bridges.

Other providers might have taken another route (just speculating).

The short summary also implies it was a "southern" problem.

No it was a nationwide for almost all international connections of ToT.

Connections to the south will likely connect down to Singapore, THE internet hub for South East Asia.
