single entry visa where in asia can you still apply?

Featured Replies

hi there,

i am just looking for some information about where is the best(easiest) places to apply for single entry tourist visas. i am currently on a single entry and will be needing another in march. i have a british passport, the options i am currently considering is hong kong, singapore, kuala lumpur or vietnam. any advice gratefully recieved.

I would go to Vietnam if I was you .

Easiest by far is Penang.

Banana Tree GH on Chulia St will do it in a day.

Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos, Penang Malaysia (scratch Kuala Lumpur from your list), Hong Kong and Vietnam are all good.

t depends on how many you have from that particular consulate.

Many consulates will get tetsty with you on your third application to that consu;ate.

Most won't let you get number four from  them and will red stamp you if you try to go over their limit.

On 29 December 2016I got a free (no fee) Single Entry Tourist Visa from Hong Kong with no requirement but a U.S. passport and a photo.

The Nio Fee deal will end on 28 febrruary 2017 and traveling to Hong Kong can be expensive.

Penang, (use an agent) Kota Bahru, Phnom Pehn,( use an agent)  Yangon, Vientiane,  Savankhet

All of the above will issue 3 tourist visas, after that  move to another one.

forget Singapore and KL unless u are local

Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi) is good if you do not mind needing to show an onward flight out of Thailand within 60 days of arrival. Hong Kong is an excellent place to apply, if you do not mind the somewhat high travel and accommodation costs. Penang, Malaysia is good, but I recommend using an agent. Kota Bharu seems OK, but I have no personal experience of the consulate there. Historically, Laos (Vientiane and Savannakhet) have been great places to apply, but recent reports suggest changes are afoot in Savannakhet. Yangon , Myanmar is good but you will probably need to show onward flight ticket out of Thailand. Phnom Penh may be OK if using an agent, but is a bit dicey if you have many previous tourist visas. Avoid Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Uptheos made a suggestion.

Single entry TV is free until the end of February. Of course an agent won't be free.

I stay at the Chulia Mansion Hotel, and use their recommended agent who costs 30 MYR (less than 250 baht). The hotel will ask the agent to stop by on request. He operates out of a travel agency on Leith St, around the corner from Chulia on the left hand side, about a 5-minutes walk from the hotel.

You could also try Bali - Denpasar Consulate. I have a UK passport and got 2 SETV's from there last year. Takes 3 days to process though and the requirements are a bit onerous with flights in/out, hotel bookings for 1 week (at least) and proof of funds in a bank account all required. Lovely place to visit for a few days and the Consulate is easy to get to in Renon.

Nice place to visit, but for an easy SEV, Penang would be my choice.

on chula street, go see Jim ( been doing visas for 30 years) , across the street from Banana gh

OR stay at Mingood hotel and let them do it for you,  http://www.hotelmingood.com/

not a bad room for the price although showing its age, great staff

I think they mean next day when they say one day. Apply morning  of one day and pickup the next afternoon.

Just trying to do mine in Phnom Penh and shopped around. Cost varies widely between $5 and $47. Some require a flight ticket, some want a bank statement and some say you have to go to the embassy yourself if your have more than x Thai visa stickers in your passport. They also offer express services for next day afternoon collection.

In the end I ended up paying $5 for the 3-day-service plus $5 for a "flight ticket". He didn't want my bank statement but I gave him mine anyway. Also, he didn't really look at the passport (all the other agents did), let's see how this goes.

Eons ago, if applying yourself, you could get same day service in Penang. That has not been so for many years unless you have a really compelling case like visiting your dying mother in hospital. It is now apply in the morning and receive the visa early afternoon of the next day.

For Penang, if you use one of these recommended hotels or agents, easy to get 60-day tourist visa that can be extended 30 days in Thailand?

Was 30MYR for a 60-day tourist visa?

HI all,

New to this, I will new a new SETV in February,  I have been to Savannakhet three times. Reading the replies on this forum, another run to Savannakhet is a non runner? I was looking to go to Vientiane. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Many thanks.

A SETV can be applied for in many countries in Southeast Asia.

Different Thai consulates and embessies are possible.

Right now many consulates ate charging no fee for the SETV at least until 28 February 2017.

Hong Kong is one of the easiest ones now

30 MYR is the agent fee. Any visa costs (usually 150 MYR for a tourist visa, but this is temporarily waived) are additional.

I booked at Mingood, mainly because it was the only hotel in this price range that had a desk and chair for laptop work. Good recommendation I think. I don't care about dated decor, as long as no cockroaches or bed bugs. Any idea how much a taxi or tuk tuk should cost from Komtar Tower to Mingood?
