When is the best time of year to visit Koh Phi Phi?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to strike a balance between good weather and lower than normal tourism. Not in a particular rush since I live in Thailand. What is the best time of year to visit?

Nov is usually good with low tourists BUT this year we got alot of rain.

dec-april full on with day trippers.

Mid april might be good but hot

nice information

Why do you want to visit Phi Phi?  It's a very crowded island year round.  October/November to March/April is the high season.  I'd guess the beginning of December to the end of January would be the highest, or so.

Weather gets tough after April or so until October.  Not unusual for ferries to be cancelled.  August and September are tough months.

On average about 2 days a year ferries are cancelled.

I've read entire routes are cancelled part of the year.

Not to/from phi phi.

No, old info, 25+ years, that has simply not been updated. Ferries to phi phi run daily, year round, with hardly any cancellations. From some obscure locations maybe some cancellations, but from the main, but from the main ports they run.

Seems a few here don't agree with your stats:

Last year end of March during high season the ferries were not running for 4 days due to high waves and stormy weather. The tourists were trapped on the island, but also on Railay and at the Centara.

And seems sometimes they should be cancelled.

Never! - an overcrowded flea-pit, well past its' sell by date. There are many islands close by that are far better to visit (Kho Yao, Kho Jum etc.)

Google pictures of the Phi Phi beaches with wall-to-wall Chinese visitors and you will see what I mean.

Why do Thai islands sound like they've been named after Greek fraternities?

We were there in the first couple of weeks of May - what I hoped was going to be after season - it was jammed with tourists. We just took a day trip out to several islands from Krabi - - just too many people for it to feel special. At least for me.

You cant compare an island tour by speedboat to a ferry. IMO the island tour chould be cancelled if not comfortable, the ferry if not safe.

And yes, in 2012 we had some bad weather for 4 days in March, so the middle of high season, which caused evacuations from Similans and ferries to Phi Phi to be cancelled for some days. Which was very unusual. And that was my main point here, you said it is not unusual for ferries to be cancelled, but that is not correct. As your Google attempts show.

Over and out.
