BANGKOK: -- A RATCHABURI-based kamnan has strongly implicated the former Ban Pong district police chief as the alleged mastermind behind the abduction and murder of a “tomboy” singer.

Bangkok police chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn said yesterday that Sanong Somsith, 54, the kamnan of Ban Pong’s Tambon Lat Bua Khao, implicated Pol Colonel Amnuay Pongsawat, 58, the superintendent of Ban Pong Police Station, in the killing of Supaksorn Polthaisong, 28.

Supaksorn, considered a “handsome” female singer at a bar, was abducted and killed last month. Her body was buried at a resort in Kanchanaburi.

You think village kamnans are appointed?

Sure - but your initial statement comes across as a blanket condemnation of democracy. Do you believe that dictatorships are more likely to put good, well-intentioned people into office? You may be due for a holiday to N Korea...

" Sanong was arrested on Saturday. Yesterday, Sanit and a team of police took Sanong to Amnuay’s office on the third floor of Ban Pong Police Station to re-enact how he was allegedly paid a second sum of Bt60,000."

Re-enactment or new round of payments to these cops?:coffee1:

The type of characters democracy brings into an office of integrity... Amazing!

Nothing to do with democracy - it is all about money!

It is one of the Golden Rules - he who has the gold, rules.

If I was a gambling man I would bet you that a Pol Colonel carries more weight than a kamnan.

This is more common in Thailand everything is so corrupt getting away with murder here life is very cheap in Thailand TIT

Certainly is cheap for the poor, don't see many rich getting kidnapped and killed and buried on old plantations or whatnot.

I would have thought that the much worshipped Democracy would have put a stop to putting shady people into power, but it seems that is not the case...

So, not much difference between different political structures...
