Five die in minibus crash

Featured Replies

The Prey Veng provincial court detained a minibus driver after his reckless driving caused the deaths of five passengers and injured several others on Friday. Investigating judge Sok Kallyann ordered the arrest of 22-year-old Lorn Chay after the collision between his minibus and a cassava truck also injured seven people.

“I, Sok Kallyann, investigating judge of Prey Veng provincial court, orders the detention of Lorn Chay, a driver, to be placed in prison for one count of reckless driving under article 85 of the Road Traffic Law,” the detention warrant read. According to the Pea Raing district police report, the minibus was traveling on National Road 8 when it attempted to overtake a cassava truck driving ahead of it.

“The minibus wanted to overtake the truck that was driving in the same direction, but when he could not pass it, he turned right and hit the truck, causing five passengers to die and another seven to be injured,” the report read. The report added that police and relevant authorities went to the scene soon after the incident and arrested the minibus driver. He was charged by the court and sent to prison that day.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

The Cambodians are playing catch up with their neigbour. Still a long way to go to be as good at it as Thailand.

They are clueless, they have actually sent the driver to prison

Surely there was rain to blame, or fog, or the brakes failed, or the driver was temporarily blinded by sunlight?

Anything to find some other reason for the crash other than the driver himself.  That would be the Thai way.
