Multi Entry Visa - Visa Run

Featured Replies

I have a multi entry visa, and I don't know if I'm actually required to cross a border, or whether I can just go to immigration in Chiang Mai and pay a fee or fine or something.

Thanks,

DS

You have a multi entry visa of some type.

Each entry will give a stay of 60 or 90 days. You then have to leave the country and return.

If you have a tourist visa you can go to Immigration and get a 30 day extension. 1,900 Baht fee.

If you have a multiple entry visa issued by a embassy or consulate you have to leave at the end of the permit to stay the visa allowed to get a new entry.

What category of visa do have?

That was quick, thanks!

It's a US Tourist Visa, Category TR.

Issued by the Consulate in Portland OR.

30 day extension at Immigration or leave the country.

OK... so, I've used two of the three entries.

If I get a 30 day extension, does that still leave the 3rd entry usable?

Providing the Visa is still valid. Yes.

Your visa allows you to get unlimited 60 day entries as long you do one on or before the enter before date on the visa.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I'm having dental work done and it's taking a little longer than anticipated.

It was issued 8-12-16, says "Enter Before 2-11-17"

My most recent entry was 12-01-16, I plan to do something by 1-29-17.

A 30 day extension pushes me beyond 2-17-17.

I meant 'pushes beyond Feb 11' ... whoopsie.

You can get the 30 day extension and still do a border run for another 60 day entry on February 11th.

I'm a little confused ... but that's normal :-)

What I'm hearing is that this triple entry visa does expire, is no longer valid past Feb 11,  even if get a 30 day extension on Jan 29 ... right?

So what I'll need to do if I need to stay beyond Apr 10 is get the 30 day extension in April ... ?

Thanks again!

I had the idea that exiting for a period of time extended the expiration date, so when the first visa 60 day ran out I went to Luang Prabang for a couple weeks, thinking that would push the Feb 11 date back.  Wrong, I guess.

And now I'm understanding that Feb 11 is carved in stone, and the only way to stay longer than the three 60 day allotments is to wait till April to get the 30 day extension ... right?

Thanks,

DS

You can do another entry on the 11th of February you will get a new 60 day entry that would allow you to stay until April and then get a 30 day extension of it if you want to.

There is no limit on the number of entries you can do as long as you do them on or before the enter before date on your visa.

The 30 day extension if for your 60 day entry not the visas expiration date.

Got it. And I assume there's not a 60 day extension.

Thanks,

DS

The is no 60 day extension unless married to a Thai or have a Thai child.

  • Author

So far I've successfully avoided both of those.

30 days it is!
