PHUKET: -- Police in Phuket have arrested a Czech man who was the subject of an international arrest warrant wanted for knowingly infecting at least 15 men and a 15 year old boy with HIV.

Zdenek Pfeifer, 52, was arrested at an address in the Bang Tao area of Phuket at 6:45pm on Tuesday, reports Thairath.

Pfeifer was the subject of a large scale appeal by Thai police Tuesday and his arrest came after a tip off from a member of the public who spotted Pfeifer at Tesco Lotus on Thepkasattri Road.

Thai Rath reports the man approached Pfeifer after seeing his image on Thai news earlier in the day.

The man told police Pfeifer became nervous and agitated before quickly fleeing on his PCX motorbike.

When Pfeifer returned to his rented room police were already waiting for him after his landlady contacted officers earlier that afternoon after also recognising his image on TV.

Pfeifer initially tried to tell police he was Italian but a check of his fingerprints proved his identity.

Pfeifer was found to have overstayed his visa and has now been transferred to an immigration detention centre in Bangkok where he is due to be extradited to the Czech Republic.

If he is bi, how many more lives has he touched during his time in Phuket...

All they are going to do is extradite him back to Czechoslovakia ?!?!?!?!

Hmmm, a quick search reveals that apparently Thailand has few (if any) laws regarding intentionally spreading HIV to unsuspecting partners. If he'd kept his visa current it seems there's nothing they could do !

A bit difficult to send him back there unless they split him in half..

The "victims" share a responsibility.  People who have unprotected sex with strangers can expect regularly to pick up sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV.

No latex gloves no pointing.

Your intelligent comment insinuates your interest in him????

Wonder if he was Thai if this much news attention would have been given ?

Now I know why some random Thai people everywhere keeps coming up to me and asking questions.......and pointing at me....

Why so....see no mention of ladies in this article?

The only thing the Thai police are interested in is his overstay. So nothing will be done about his deliberate act of spreading HIV, which is actually attempted murder

Also how many of these known 16 partners have had sex with others and infected them

Will the police charge him with having sex with a 15 year old child ?

Exactly why HIV positive people should be prevented from entering Thailand.

And where is Chechoslovakia?

You cannot tell from how somebody looks if he or she got Aids ... better be careful

No idea why they blurred his face out

How could  anyone know if he's HIV positive or not, surely that info is confidential?

That isn't even a country.

From the sounds of things he committed the crimes in his home country - he was on an International Arrest Warrant.

So why would the Thai police try to charge him with crimes he committed elsewhere?

Not if he's deliberately infecting people, then escaping from the country and fleeing to Thailand.

They don't need a reason to throw you out of the country.they can throw you out because of the colour of your shirt or the style of your flip flops.

And how many of those lives that he's touched are still working and passing it on?

How do you know the police are only interested in his overstay?

How do you know nothing will be done about his deliberately spreading HIV?

Yet another shoot-from-the-hip Thaivisa armchair magistrate.

A somewhat naive response. This individual is a manipulator who will play every game in the book to have unprotected sex. Keep in mind he has sex with underage boys in a 3rd world where money and education is scarce. Please do not undermine the seriousness of his crimes with this nonsense of "shared responsibility".  There is no excuse for his intent to infect and kill.

Especially as his face was already shown on TV (according to the article)...

Looks like someone hasn't watched the news in about 25 years...

There is an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol.

As all his alleged crimes were committed in his home country, it makes sense to send him back there to face justice.

They are extraditing him back to the Czech Republic because he is wanted there on charges of intentionally infecting 17 people with HIV, one of whom was an underage boy.

There is an Interpol Red Alert out for the guy, which is why the Thai authorities knew about him.

Not sure where you're getting your information from about the teenage boy.  He's being deported for crimes in his home country, not in Thailand.

And if the country is Thailand, education isn't "scarce" -  there's universal education for free, and it includes sex education.

And put the Thai people with hiv in camps?
