Thai Wife Visa

Featured Replies

I have a Thai wife and an adopted Thai daughter. For many years I worked as a teacher and the school I worked for provided a work permit and employment visa but as of Last August I am retired and on U.S. Social Security. S.S. pays me the exact average that people on S. S. receive. I am considering a Thai Wife visa since we have been married for 12+ years and I adopted my wife's daughter from her previous marriage 11 years ago. In the past, in order to qualify for this type of visa they would accept a combination of money in the bank plus monthly income to meet the 400,000 Baht requirement, (Now 800,000 Baht I understand). My wife is a teacher and still has income also but as I understand it, this doesn't help me at all in getting a Thai Wife Visa. Is there a way that they will still accept a combination of income and money in the bank, and if so, what would the income required be if one had say 600,000 in the bank?

As far as I know the married to Thai national only requires 400,000 baht  in the bank or income of 40,000 baht per month.  800,000 baht is required for a retired extension if no Thai wife.

This is an extension of stay we are talking about, NOT a VISA. And the combination is NOT applicable here... That is only for the retirement extension..

Based on retirement, it's the same with or without a Thai wife.

You have the choice to apply for an extension of stay based on retirement or marriage.

  • If retirement you need an income of 65K OR 800K in the bank OR an combination of the two. With 600K in the bank you'd need an income of at least 16.7K based on the prevailing exchange rate.
  • If marriage you need an income of 40K OR 400K in the bank. You cannot combine the two.

US citizens self certify their income at the US embassy. No proof required.

There is no Thai Wife Visa.
You would be applying for a 12 month extension of your permission to stay.
