They want subs so they can teach their children in school that thailand was never colonised because it had subs. Also. The subs are great to show on children's day. I fully understand why the thai army wants subs. I guess I've been here too long....

They cant operate effectively in the gulf and can be blown to pieces by a a few well placed anti sub mines or an airborn attack. Look at satelite photos of the gulf and you will see how shallow it is. There are only a few channels thats deep enough for the subs to use. Block these channels and the subs are cornered and useless. The second issue is who will the subs defend the country from ? Do you not think the country can use the B 32 billion better? Maybe build more hospitals or provide better care for the eldery ? Or do you think Thailand is under threat from outside forces? The only longterm threat to Thailand is the Chinese from which they are buying the second rate subs from.

Purchasing these subs is the least expense,but the cost of building up a new infrastucture and the extensive training of the crew will demand a lot of resources..........If they`re even gonna man them,that is !

Just being built by the Chinese is very bad enough. The gulf of Thailand will be littered with submarine parts that have fallen off. Excess, unnecessary parts of course, just added for show.

 

Should make it easier to get the Burmese slaves to the Malaysian border without the annoying media reporting on the trade or having to give a slice of the profits to all the middlemen.
