Exit and re-entry after 90 days

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I am from Australia and pretty new to Thailand (first trip was in June to July last year on a visa exemption). I arrived here on a SETV on November 14th last year and then in January I extended my stay for a further 30 days at immigration in Bangkok. I would like to stay in Thailand longer but I know I have to leave and then re-enter. Am I able to just cross the border by land and come back to get a visa exemption for 30 days (without getting a SETV) or do I have to fly-in fly-out to get this? Also, if I wanted to get another SETV where would be the easiest place to get it?

Thanks, much appreciated.

You can get a 30 day visa exempt entry at a border crossing that can be extended for 30 days at a immigration office.

Be aware under the new rules you are only allowed two land border crossings  per calendar year now.

Thanks for your answer. Will I have to show proof of onward travel (which I don't have) when coming back over the border into Thailand?

They don't ask to see a flight out of the country.

Highly unlikely. They normally only ask for proof of onward travel if looking for reasons to deny entry. Based on your history I don't see any reason why they would.

The most application friendly places to get a SETV are Vientiane, Laos or Penang, Malaysia.
