Thai PM congratulates newly sworn-in President Trump

 

BANGKOK, 23rd January 2017 (NNT) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has sent a congratulatory message to Donald J. Trump upon his inauguration as the 45th President of the United States. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand has advised the Thai community, that Gen Prayut sent a letter on behalf of the Kingdom of Thailand and its citizens, congratulating the newly sworn-in President of the United States, Donald Trump. The letter was sent on January 20th. 

Thailand and the United States share a long history of friendship and cordial relations stretching back 183 years. Thailand was the first ally of the United States in Asia and their alliance has formed a bedrock of peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific. Their long standing ties are preserved and propelled by mutual interests in various areas, including economics, security, and social and regional cooperation.

And Trump replies, who the firetruck is Prayuth. If he can make a good pad thai order some so he stops annoying me.

Why didn't he phone him up? Surely Trump knows Thai as it's going to be the number one language. I bet when he opened the letter he was like, Prayut who? I thought that Thaksin bloke ran things over there.

Suspect he'll ask the President to re-classify those pesky CIA documents just released which paint an undesirable picture of Thai history?

Trump replied, "Sorry, but I've been told I shouldn't engage in unilateral discussions with Taiwan."

I imagine that letter went in Trump's 'special filing cabinet'. Trump can't even be bothered to listen to the daily security updates let alone open letters from countries like Thailand. 

"Taiwan??! Didn't I speak to her already?"

He urged Trump to lead his cabinet in Wednesday exercise....want's to spread this phenomenon to the world.

I wonder if he asked Trump "bit dodgy going through elections you might not win" staging a military coup is better

Although Prayuth reacted extremely quickly, his congratulations were the 3rd that Trump received - beaten only by the congrats from the leaders of Russia & N Korea.

Ummm.... how did "Americans" get their country "back" exactly? I know that's what he said in the speech, but Obama was elected by large majorities of the American public.

 

Globalism certainly has its problems (inequality, runaway consumerism, homogeneity, loss of cultural identity, etc....), but to call its advocates "filth?" That seems a little overdone.

 

Trump is a demagogue who is willing to do or say literally anything to get people to give him more power. He's an autocrat/kleptocrat in the making. America has just jumped out of the globalist frying pan into the nationalistic authoritarian fire. You can ask Thailand about that as well. Prayuth has no need to fear him--they are cut from the same cloth.

Not quite. Thaksin ruled as an authoritairan center-left globalist populist. Trump campaigned as an authoritarian right-wing nationalist populist (even though he himself is a globalist and has made his fortune off the global system). He got his most crucial support from the less-educated white American working class by speaking against free trade and immigration and in favor of protectionism.

 

This class has suffered at the hands of globalization because it has provided unwelcome economic competition for them, whereas the Thai working class has benefited from globalization, and thus threw their support behind Thaksin's dual-track economics. The Thai middle and upper classes are the ones who encountered unwanted economic competition from globalization (the global managerial elite are much more well-educated, worldly, and skilled than they are) and so turned strongly against it in favor of protectionism, and hence in favor of the nationalist anti-globalist Prayuth.
