BANGKOK: -- NATIONAL POLICE chief General Chakthip Chaijinda yesterday said the public should wait for witness hearings next month in the case involving former schoolteacher Jomsap Saenmuangkhot before jumping to conclusions about police allegedly fabricating evidence.

He was responding to allegations being spread on social media.

The witness hearings are scheduled in Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court on February 8-10.

Chakthip also responded to the National Human Right Commission (NHRC)’s remark on Sunday that police should have investigated what went wrong in the case but senior officers had made threatening comments, which made people afraid to tell the truth.

The police's claims are absolutely absurd (based on what i've read in the BP / CSI LA etc), a group of supposedly 7 master con artists clinging onto a 12 year old case in some backwater province, risking the wrath of disgruntled RTP bigwigs, all for the crumbs of what would likely be a pretty paltry settlement for this poor lady who has already lost everything.

Anyone with even a shred of intelligence wouldn't be buying the cops' claims. This RTP chief is giving the ex chief Somyot a run for his money in the lack of credibility stakes. And I wonder did he ever bother to even spin a lie about how he managed to amass a 1 billion baht fortune on the back of a life as a humble police officer?

Feb 8th-10th........what are the odds for a postponement while the BIB "investigate" further?

The RTP has such a fine reputation to maintain. These folk who disagree have read to much alternative truth in the news.

Chaijinda is correct in saying we should not jump to conclusions, and that we should wait for the "justice" system to do its job.

But, what action will HE take if the RTP are proven to have conspired to pervert the course of this so-called justice?

Promote the guilty ones or place them in an inactive post ?

All we seem to do in Thailand is wait

We wait for the Red Bull heir to be charged with the MURDER of a policeman

We wait for a 16 year old who illegally drives a car and kills 8 people to be punished in a meaningful way

We wait for a businessman's son to go to trial for speeding and reckless driving resulting in the death of two university students

We wait for justice for the two Burmese workers convicted of murder in Phuket

Wait, wait , wait..........

This would be useful only if the witnesses are hidden and protected from the Thai police until they appear at court. Would be good for their health and their families, too

Hopefully the witnesses don't contract rare blood disorders, misuse shoelaces or end up in a shallow grave in Kanchanaburi.

Police Chief haha funny. A chief of corruption left to finish his tender at the top by the very regime that promised immediate reforms and criminals to be assholed. How old is the inborn 70. His carried 30 years of acts of corruption and crime against his own nation. They should be jailed. Hang on did Prayut wrote a clause for the old chestnut.

These police should have been arrested immediately after the coup. Prayut shit talker. Your not a real man little P

The only fake is what you see in these costumes pictured above. They are a insult to humanity

Justice delayed is justice denied.

National police chief wow we are in the big leagues now on this one. Maybe social media pressed all their right buttons. I am sure the police are busy orchestrating the trial escalating it to show trial status. The sad part is can justice be done as their reputation precedes them.

The justice train pulled out a long time ago. Rip up the tracks.

That would be easier if the same public weren't already well aware of the RTP's well documented penchant for doing just that.

'If the court rules that Jomsap is innocent, police had a plan of action, Chakthip said.' But their having any sort of plan should prove illuminating.

Waiting, waiting, waiting !  Are we still waiting for the errant abbot to be arrested or are the DSI and the police waiting for him to disappear, when they will express their astonishment that he is no longer at the temple?

Its the old pick the low hanging fruit and everybody is on a servitude level. The abbot is on the upper level thus he gets special treatment. All part of the interwoven Thai culture.

Police were not willing to hear criticism from outsiders, the NHRC said.

Chakthip said police listened to criticism and urged the NHRC to be neutral, not just criticise police.

How many times have we read here of people complaining about wrongdoing by the Thai police, and then the typical response is for the police bigwigs to threaten the complainers with criminal defamation, and/or actually bring charges against them for tarnishing their "good" reputation. :cheesy:
