BANGKOK: -- The secretary-general to the prime minister, General Wilas Arunsri, on Monday insisted that the government’s use of the budget was transparent following speculation the Government House reconstruction projects are overdue.

The Bt31 million worth of projects, conducted by the Fine Arts Department, involve the refurbishment Command Buildings I and II to mirror the architectural tones of the venerable Thai Khu Fah and Santi Maitri buildings.

The projects, started in March last year, were set to be completed on January 21 or last Saturday.

Tea money must first be paid before the project can be completed as there are no honor among thieves here.

Transparent like water... in every BKK kklong.

It is amazing how often Government spokemen feel the need to constantly mention the term "transparency" when referring to Government contracts.  Could it be that they protest too much?

Wilas said he had not looked through the project contracts but their construction occasionally ceased when the buildings hosted important meetings or were visited by official foreign guests.

“Those are unexpected circumstances,”
So, when the contract was signed, it was not envisaged that this important Government building  would ever be used for "important meetings" or would ever be "visited by official foreign guests".
What is the building there for?

Why should this government have to defend any action. Nobody will ca really openly criticize it. And the way they throw billions Baht at dozens of projects repeatedly, why worry about these extra costs.
