January 24, 20179 yr Popular Post Just got back from a quick visa run to Yangon and can confirm the following info:The only documents required for an SETV are 1. Application with 2 photos 2. Photocopy of photo/information page of passport3. Flight ticket INTO Thailand4. Short handwritten statement saying you are visiting Thailand for tourism and an address where you will be staying or a short itinerary of your stay. What was not requested or mentioned as needed:A flight ticket OUT of ThailandAny bank or financial statements or money. Some other notes: Arrived just after opening and no lines/very few people there. The staff at this embassy are very nice and helpful. There are multiple windows serving applicants - not just one. It is next day service - apply in morning pick up following afternoon at 1:30pm. There are many decently priced hotels not far from the embassy location.I took Nok Air Round trip from DonMuang and the airport taxes were actually more than my airfare. I was kind of lucky to get my Myanmar visa in November because on Dec 1 the Bangkok embassy doubled the visa prices. But you can still get a visa for Myanmar online. This was my second trip in the last 6 months to this embassy and I recommend it as a good alternative especially hearing about all the refusals at Savannakhet.I am hitting 50 this year so thankfully for me I wont have to deal with these SETV runs anymore.
January 25, 20179 yr Do you know if they accept Thai baht for hotels, tuk tuks etc or did you use their currency?
January 25, 20179 yr Author No you have to exchange into the local currency Kyat. Best deal for cash is to use any of the money changers all over town. Airport exchange rates are a ripoff. Also many ATMs now but I did not use them so dont know if they charge fees like Thailand does.

January 25, 20179 yr You really need to have kyat. However, many services will allow you to pay in US$, albeit at lousy exchange rates. It is quite difficult to buy kyat in advance of your trip, so you may be forced to buy a few kyat at unfavorable rates on your arrival. US$20 should be ample until you find a good money changer.
