BANGKOK: -- PEOPLE involved in cheating during police entrance exams last month have been found to have committed similar offences in tests for other state agencies, and will face serious action, deputy Bangkok police chief Pol Maj-General Adul Narongsak said yesterday.

After attending a two-hour meeting with investigators at Phaholyothin Police Station, Adul said officers were going to apply for more arrest warrants.

He said the team had gathered up to 90 per cent of the evidence relevant to the case, but he refused to elaborate on how many applicants and suspects were involved.

It is very obvious to me that in order for this to work certain officials must be involved in this but they seem reluctant to disclose who or how far up is goes, it's funny how police are usually scrambling over themselves to hold press releases about other investigations but in certain cases such as this one there is absolutely no information flow what so ever, that to me always smells of - cover up

They committed the ultimate mistake...they got caught.

Hard to believe this has been going on for years here come on when will they just admit to the corruption TIT

By calling it a gang it makes it sound like a one off small time event. In fact it is institutionalized corruption and has been going on for years. My SIL was offered a pass for 400k  years ago

Ok slap on wrist 200 baht fine dont show your face for 6 months case closed

Exam cheating? In Thailand? I'm shocked, shocked.

B200 Fine,

yup, 200 baht fine and straight to the inactive post-department...that'll teach 'em.

About 7 yrs ago my wifes son applied to join the police . H went for the exam and passed but said the police examiner wanted 30,000 baht to pass him . He did not have the money and i was not sure it was true so refused to give it to him .
He then applied to join the army border control near nong khai to stop smuggling across the mekong . He again passed the exam but when he got back my wife got a call from the examiner which i listened to . He wanted 40,000 baht to pass him  or he would put the next candidate through. This time fed up of him lounging around the house i paid and a week later he was in.
He said there were about 40 people taking the test so about 1.6 million baht for a couple of hours . I think the test was in Loei so a small place. multiply this for the army and police across thailand and it is a massive amount of money .
My wife a teacher had to pay 200,000baht for promotion , 7/11 wanted 20,000baht for  her daughter to be promoted to assistant manager , neice had to pay 30,000baht for nurse promotion , her nephew paid 100,000baht to have a job of 7000 baht a month in the village gov office . Want a job in tesco , have to pay . Job in immigration , have to pay . iT is in all walks of thai life so this report about one instance seems a bit silly

Methinks the police exam issue is just the tip of the iceberg here. Your post rather fleshes things out.

Yes when my wife went for promotion she had to be tested a few times and after each test at her school the testers usually only 3/people had a big meal with whisky etc then my wife agve them a brown envelope with an amount of money agreed earlier 30,000-50,000baht . I paid this a few times but played hard to get and so got it cheaper than most thais , some who pay as much as 700,000baht .
I went with my wife to a an expensive hotel to pick up her certificate . Hundreds of teachers in there , prob more than 300 and all of them paid this money . the amount is staggering. This is just 1 city.
The mind boggles on how much is paid throughout the country

I am sure, we will hear the same BS we often hear in drug cases:

"Somebody called  and told me to pick up the questions there. I was paid 100,000 to pick it up".

Mr Big walks, the small fry get jail time.Proper Thai policework, like always.

Perhaps they should re-test every single officer all the way up the chain and shit can anyone that fails it.

Truly sickening that the people concerned are not already banned from every Government appointment and jailed for a couple of years.

Words words words , we need to see the outcome of this , and it must be reported in the media .

And I thought they only did that in Laos. I have two personal friends that tell me they had to pay money to get recruited in a bank and the govt immigration.

It seems like it is a widespread practise throughout the region.

Yes i have a friend who paid for a job in a bank . It is the thai way  , every good job you have to buy but the bad thing is the people who get the jobs and promotions are the ones with the money not the best qualified

The cheats get job security, and the bosses get nice retirement homes in lieu of functioning offices, and the people who those offices are meant to be serving get, as usual, diddly-squat.

It's Intriguing that they have gathered 90% of evidence.  How do they know what is, or will be, 100%??

It appears that they've put a lid on how far they are willing to go.

It seems to me that in this sort of activity, people who have cheated will keep being uncovered, but apparently that's not the case here??

Has It ever been different?  Anywhere?

The only thing that changes Is the degree of corruption and benefit to those Involved.
