BANGKOK — When Facebook abruptly vanished from virtual Thailand in 2014, it was as if the social media-addicted masses were exposed to the vacuum of space.

 

The gasping lasted about 30 minutes until access was restored, and suspicion immediately turned to the military, which only six days prior staged a coup d’etat and had long sought control of the internet.

Govt denies digital surveillance as report alleges pressure on ISPs, snooping technology

BANGKOK: -- THE GOVERNMENT dismissed the allegation yesterday that it had violated people’s privacy by conducting surveillance of telephone and Internet communications.

 

Government Spokesman Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the government was too busy and did not have time to spy on people.

 

He was responding to a report by the London-based organisation Privacy International (PI) regarding surveillance in Thailand.

 

The organisation, which claims to be committed to fighting for privacy rights worldwide, yesterday published on its website a report entitled “Who’s That Knocking at My Door?: Understanding Surveillance in Thailand”.

The Privacy International would hold more credibility than a Junta , lets face it , Prayut only lets the Thai people hear what he wants them to hear, something I have noticed on other international news outlets. end of story.....................................................

The Swiss and the UK say yes Thailand has purchased tech to collect privet communications of targeted people,   But the junta denies the report and any surveillnce of any people,  Hmmm whom is telling the truth I wonder???

I also wonder how or if the supporters of the junta on TVF will coment on the report and deniel by the junta or will they do the usual no comment when the facts are there for all to see...?

Just another "No we are not buying submarines" story. Government to busy to spy on people. They always find the time.
