Out of those 1200 concerts how many were western music? Curious. I know your a Thai country music fan. A couple of hundred people sat outside a shopping mall watching looktung doesn't really count as a concert.

Why not?

Hey, I didn't mean to offend. Okay it's a concert. There, there... Actually I'm quite jealous. Not been to many concerts. Nightclubs, discos, pubs, many, many times but concerts, if I count up, infact none. Not one. The closest I came to going was to see Elton John last year in Bangkok. But my wife refused to go. Oh what a sad life I lead. Bo ho!!

Some of the bands I saw in my youth would have loved crowds of a couple of hundred.

Best I've seen in bkk were Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Fatboy Slim.

As to Elton John...

Sorry but, I have to agree with your wife in this case...though I still love his performance of Pinball Wizard in Tommy.

No western music, went to one yesterday with less than 200, still a concert

She would of course be stoned or at least whipped for singing in some Islamic countries. There are several Thai singers who are Muslims, they just don't feel the need to make a statement about it with separatist clothing.

Most Thais, are stone deaf!

Agreed - you can hear them coming a kilometre away with the bass turned up to maximum; extra speakers.  No Government warning that they are likely to suffer permanent hearing loss in later years.

I guess you like western garbage then  Thailand has no chance of attracting tourists by putting on festivals. The biggest thing they have done is the Pattaya music festival, an arid dreary attempt where they confiscated all sorts of things like combs and pens, they did just let us in with an umbrella though after thinking about it, all the atmosphere of a car park. Not seen any evidence for this explosive interest in electronic music, sounds like a time warp.

Google 'mystic valley festival'. Its next weekend, 5 stages of EDM music with some big name international DJs headlining.

See you there? :)

Turquoise waters, world-famous cuisine and heartfelt hospitality are the pillars of Thailand's booming tourism industry.

Turquoise waters, world-famous cuisine and heartfelt hospitality are set to become the pillars of Thailand's BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-booming tourism industry, then.

Come to Ban Phe, Rayong for the annual festival and we've had Siriporn headlining here in the past. It's on this weekend so you have only Sunday night left if you want to come.

It's actually happening next weekend according to my wife. So, thankfully, I've received sufficient advance warning to give Ban Phe a wide berth then! :annoyed:

Normally this annual festival takes place in December during the period leading up Constitution Day, but has been postponed until now in the light of last October's sad event.
