Non-Immigrant O-A Retirement/Long-Stay Visa

Featured Replies

I have a question about the medical certificate required for this visa (Non-Immigrant O-A Retirement/Long-Stay Visa.)  I am a US citizen. According to the Thai Consulate (Los Angeles) website, I need to provide:

"Four copies of the completed medical certificate form issued from the country where the application is submitted ..."

This suggests that the medical certificate needs to be completed in the US.  I am in Thailand now and it would be so much easier (and cheaper) to get this done here. I would do it at Chiang Mai RAM hospital.  In case it helps, I leave Thailand in early April and could get the medical certificate here just days before I go. Within days of arriving in the US I would apply for the Non-Immigrant O-A Retirement/Long-Stay Visa, so the certificate would be very current.

I thought I would ask here in case anyone had any ideas. Of course, I could email the LA Consulate as well.

I think the requirement it be done in the states will not be waived.

The same requirement appears on the MFA website.

You could contact them to confirm.

If you are going to complete the Visa Medical in the LA Area I would recommend:  http://wellnessmart.com/.

They have locations in LA and Orange Counties;  No appointment needed.

I did my O-A Medical there and it was easy and the total cost was $265.  This included the following:

Exam

Blood Test

Urine Drug Screen

Chest X-ray(I cannot use the TB Skin test and it would be even cheaper if one only needs the TB Skin Test)

I got the complete results with Doctor's signature in 3 days.

I was able to use the Medical Certificate form that was filled out by Bangkok Nursing Home hospital when I applied for my first O-A Visa from the Washington DC Thai Embassy BUT that was a one time thing since the Thai Foreign Service Officer advised me that he would approve it's use since it was only a month old.  Future O-A's used a medical certificates from my family doctor

The requirements listed for the O-A (at least at the Thai Embassy in Washington DC )  does not require the Medical Certificate to be filled out in your home country, only that it not be over 90 days old

But unfortunately each one of the Thai Consulates  in the US make up or enforces whatever rules they want , like for instance,  the notary requirement that is enforced in Los Angeles and Chicago but not enforced in New York or Washington.  Or the crazy FBI check that is now required by the local national running the Consular Section at the Embassy in DC
