Lame excuse but at least he resigned.  A lot of other government officials should follow this example.

I think he was due to retire in a few months anyway?

Resignation probably allows him to keep all his bennies?

Well, I'm sure glad he didn't do it and instead it was the liquor that did it.    He should sue the liquor industry for making him drink it.

Demon Rum blamed again but then who knows what he was drinking. If drinking at a friends house the drinks would possibly be free and he just filled his tank no problem. Been there done that. For the sake of disclosure after I filled my tank I did some pretty silly things to.

el.g, were you 60 years old and holding down a high profile position with a government department and nearing pensionable age? Somehow i doubt it. Maybe in your wild and younger days eh?

Not going to invite him round to mine for a beer or 3

If you do...better nail.everything down!

I have no art on my walls. I think I need to start drinking heavily.

He should have used the, "I was possessed by a ghost" defense. All would be forgiven.

LOL! The good old Thai-Style... "I was drunk"... excuse. Works every time.

Anyway, no matter what, he will always be the guy who made Thailand lose face.

Personally, I always think of naked girls when drunk. Stealing paintings never crossed my mind.

Ah well......fair play to him....he has blamed it on the booze.

And why not ? .........Worse excuses have been used to justify the last coup.

Yes it was the alcohol who did it..............

What a man ,  commendable ,  he admits  his failings  .

Maybe he stole the paintings because did not have enough Monet to buy Degas and make the Van Gogh.

I think we've all heard that one before...

You can't lose something you didn't have to start with.

How ironic the DD of Intellectual Property was caught stealing property!

I've noticed there isn't much art in Thailand. The guy was probably starved for culture and dazzled by the paintings. Too bad for him that he couldn't recognize cheap art.

The gold standard Thai apology: I was drunk, so...

Careful...the "I was drunk and aroused so I just had to rape her" is a well-used excuse in news articles seen in these pages too. Maybe if the average Thai village drunk steals the neighbours' pictures rather than raping their daughters it will be an improvement.....All Thais have at least one picture on the wall....

And it's the one picture none would dare steal.

His Next move would be to change his name.  The fun and games continue. Same Same No Different...

Also, blaming alcohol? Really? You got drunk and lost your morals? They're not your car keys, for god's sake.

Obviously spoken by someone who has never got drunk and lost their car keys.

According to ABC news., "The three paintings of nondescript scenery were worth 15,000 yen ($130) in total."

Earlier reports and earlier Thaivisa forum posts, suggested that Saori Hara (Japanese porn "actress" ) was the subject of one painting. No doubt her ample curves can be described as being similar to a landscape.
