BANGKOK: -- The army in Nakhon Si Thammarat has warned the Muang district’s municipal administration to speed up resolving the problem of polluted water from a garbage dump site otherwise it will step in to do the job itself.

The warning was issued by Maj-Gen Arkhom Pongprom, commander of the 41st army circle who was assigned by Lt-Gen Piyawat Narkvanich, commander of the Fourth Army Region, to call an urgent meeting with all parties concerned, including the municipal administration, to quickly deal with the garbage-induced water pollution which has caused nuisance to people around the area as well as the army there.

Maj-Gen Arkhom said that army had been monitoring the municipal administration in dealing with the water pollution problem and thought it was about time for the army to step in if the local officials are unable to do the job.

.......  it was about time for the army to step in

if the local officials are unable to do the job.

If? What do you mean if?

Clearly the local officials are unable to do the job.

Just about time to step in. Enough is enough.

So if your wife/GF tells you "If you haven't taken care of the garbage by lunch I will do it my self"

You would be scared out of your pants right

Otherwise it will step up and do the job itself and submit the bill to the municipality. That would probably frighten them a bit, given the military's past performance when it comes to staying on budget.

The Thai Army the hub of garbage.

i sure there is more to this story than what's been reported

typical Thai reporting sh!t story not really worth the reporters  time to elaborate on, rubbish is always someone else's problem,  take a look at Kao Sumui rubbish tip complete with the incinerator sitting in the middle of it

If the army takes over responsibility for garbage "management ", then presumably those elements of the local authority who were formerly responsible will lose their jobs, as they would no longer be needed.

Probably a better long term solution is to give the task to a contractor, paid on results...

Yes, there is a major rubbish problem, kids are not taught to put things in a rubbish bin.

Off comes the wrapper from an ice cream, straight on the ground.

Ok this story is about a rubbish dump or dumps, but sounds like the above still applies to the adults managing this issue.

Finally!!!  A job the Army is well-suited to handle...

Probably yes, if i knew that i would be getting a big bill as they will be.

I congradulate the Thai military on being tough with the garbage issue.

If there's one thing they know, it's garbage in and garbage out.

I am afraid the military carries a bigger stick than your g/f. For the sake of disclosure I do not know your g/f but the military hmm they can be ruthless if necessary. They can throw more generals at a  problem than the proverbial kitchen sink.

Didn't they give the Bangkok mayor/police one month to solve the traffic problems?

How's that going?

Of course a "return to democracy" can take 20 years?
